Please advice! I transferred $330 to tonny_dam and now he refuses to respond. HELiX Jun 6th, 09, 02:17 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi all,

I wanted to buy a Blackberry 8820 from tonny_dam, which he is selling at S$330 over here.

So I went to the bank and made a transfer to his overseas account in Vietnam.

tonny_dam emailed me, saying that he only received $230 after converting the money to Singapore dollars from his currency, and included a bank statement screenshot. It was true that he received only $230.

I asked him how we should resolve this -- whether he can check on any commission charges by his bank, and that whether we can reach a compromise on the price.

He has never replied since.

I have sent him over 5 emails since he last replied, and it has been over 2 weeks already. Clearly, he is ignoring my emails.

I have demanded that he returns the money, be it just the $230. And he still doesn't reply.

Because I made the telegraphic transfer to his account, I have his full details, including name, address and bank account details.

Please advice me on what to do next! Will the police be of any help?

sad to say , no. police can be of no help.

1) you transfered the money willingly ( not under the circumstances that you were forced to or anything ) I am not sure if you are eligible for filing a Small Claims Tribunal claim because the other party is not in singapore.

2) you took the risk, this kinda deal is risky. you should have at least used a certain medium, ebay or something ? at least you are able to file for dispute claim, you most likely have no one to go to now.

A side note, pal, why risk it ? The guy had ONLY 7 post, no trade rep. Money goes first = Bye Bye. Next time please becareful , cheap stuff don't come that easy.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input.

I couldn't buy it through COD because he would only be in Singapore in July.

I found his international number on another forum, so I'll try to call him. Is there anything I can do since I have his details like full name, bank account details and home address?

bro you really think trade points are bullshit think again. If you try such stunt like creating 10 accounts and each giving rep points and ppl won't know.. then u are wrong. This statement just proof u nvr tried using the trade point system before.

Trade points are of course NOT RELIABLE. There are many unscroupolus sellers and acting under several different names.
Dont be so nieve.

u can seek for help from police.. not say tat police cant help.. tis is call cheating case and is a criminal offence under sg law..

1st thing u need evidence like.. the transaction of the transfer receipt and if using interBanking u need to prove to the police that u transfer to tat person, rather it is local bank or not.. if local bank then u counted urself lucky.. cos u have the Bank Account number and police will investigate with the bank with the person bank account number... bank sure release the person personal information for law enforcement.. for more details, the police will instruct u haha i cant tell u that much. gd luck

tonny_dam?

this guy sells alot of blackberry in hwz.

i was once tempted to buy one of his bb.

but, i sent alot of emails, and alot of smses, not even one reply.

weird thing, he keeps upping his thread almost everyday.

why is it so hard to give just one reply, even the reply is "im busy, i cant reply much"?

at least it shows that he's honest. but err... for transferring to another country bank account, thats a little bit careless of you..

next time, bank transfer in signapore, at least u knw where ur money gone to.

But since the seller is based in Vietnam, does the Small Claims Tribunals still apply?

Thanks
