Difference Between Local and Export set Apple Iphone 3GS/3G jai-dev Mar 31st, 09, 01:22 PM #1

Realised there are some people out there who are trying to make money by attempting to claim they have iphones and want to sell it off and are notsure if its local or export.

common excuses are

a) My friend passed it to me
b) Won In A Lucky Draw

Have Encountered a case and now want to let all knw how to differenciate an export and local.

-------------------------------------------------------------
LATEST APPLE IPHONES 3GS BY SINGTEL
details provided by bro Mobile_Crazy
http://forums.vr-zone.com/handphones...ngtel-set.html

---------------------------------------------------------------------
For Export Sets

This model box is much more smaller than the local sets

And, the accessories include charger head, data cable, ear piece.

The Local set looks like this

The box model and serial number as follows.

This is for the white color.

32GB

MC134ZA/A

**This is for the bros here who don't know how to differentiate 3G Iphone and the 3GS when buying in shops or from those selling in forums/market place and also between the export (other countries) and local singtel one**

*statement copied from mobile_crazy thrend*
---------------------------------------------------------
if you are getting a set thats not from a direct dealer and the set does not come with a recipt, pls check the serial number on this site, even if the site claims the set has a local singapore warranty, as long as the iphone is unlocked via itunes, there HAS to be a date on the below website. if is shows that its still not registered, it might Still be a Export set

Bro,
Previously, it's very easy to spot Singtel set. Check the Part No at the back of the box, or Model No in the iPhone Setting->General->About. Only 3 different part no for Singtel:
- MB489ZA/A
- MB496ZA/A
- MB500ZA/A

But now, Maxis telco from Msia also have the same part no as Singtel. Hmm...perhaps all Msian sets come from Singtel leftover.

You can check from this Apple website link:
About activating iPhone 3G with a wireless carrier

Cheers

This is good for legitimate or honest dealer
at least they can point here when ppl start asking lots of qn where and how the set came about.

Sometime dunnoe how to answer them.

Great job

one more thing :
the picture u show is for 8gb Black or white?
what about 16gb

is this comprehensive? as in the bad thing might came aound is that the FG number is only for a small version, then seller will have a fun time explaining

theres no harm in buying an export set. however like any other deal, with discounts comes compromises..

a) warranty for set is not covered in singapore
b) from my knowlege export sets cannot have their software updated. Local sets can do so.
c) Resell value is much much much lower as compared to local sets

Hmmm...I'm using export set iPhone 2G, can update software leh...but every time I update I'll have to JB & unlock cos' mine is US locked set.

Since my friend's set is unlock, shld be able to upgrade software & then JB; no need unlock?

He is willing to let me open up the box, try with local telco SIM card, confirm working then pay him.

Too expensive to buy iPhone w/o contract locally...
