Over a Gig of Ram dmann304 Dec 12th, 04, 02:04 PM #1 (permalink)
Got something weird here, have a dual channel system with 1 gig of Corsair ram with LL timings. Platinum series, on a ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MB.

I have 2 more slots open. So i decided to go with another gig of ram to 2 gigs, same memory type same timings i believe from the Corsair Platinum series. I placed the memory into the slots know filling up 4 slots using dual channel mode. I was starting to get reboots and some BSOD's from the 2 gigs of ram.

I tested the memory and it is just fine but after i changed a setting in the bios called memory acceleration mode from enable to auto, the system know runs just fine all from this setting.

But what is weird is i always had this setting set to enable but know i went to 2 gigs i have to change it to Auto to eliminate BSOD and stability problems.

Anyone have an idea about why disabling MAM to achieve stability on 2 gigs of ram over enabling it with 1 gig of ram. I heard this setting is like PAT, Performance Acceleration mode on the P4C series boards.

Quote " the ram is the same on all 4 sticks of 512" so thats not a problem.

Thanks

I do some 3d modling for games know and i like the overkill of ram. I hear that you have to disable Memory Acceloration mode in bios when using all four banks. im happy know but i had to set this option to auto to stabilize the system. Any ideas about work arounds for this? i heard its like PAT.

ACtually a lot of people thinks AutoCAD required a very powerful machine.
But in fact it DOES NOT. Even in 3D modelling you can use settings that your
machine can handle.

it is only when you use apps like 3D StudioMAX with 3D-Rendering with textures and details that your require a better graphic card.

hope this helps.

NOTE:
I have used AutoCAD2000 on a PIII 866GHz with nVidia TNT2 with 512MB PC133 SDRAM to draft out many many many many freakin' product drawings. Mostly 2D.
And some 3D plan Layout....

and the rig handled well

well when i do 3dmodelling right.. i open alot of apps at one go... so more ram is requried.

Eg: i on 3dstudiomax , photoshop , swift3d and flash.

on a 1gig machine when u render the rest of the progs become laggy.. when i got my xtra 512 it became smooth..

hope that personal experienced helped.

DATA crunching and multi apps will do better with more RAMS

well you're right if the other programs do not eat up the GPU and CPU processing power.

More Ram is good, especially when u do textures in photoshop & model in 3D application simultaneously...

When modelling in the viewport, ur best bet is only a good card...

Talking about doin 3D on slow machine, I did my final animation project for my degree in 3DS Max 3 on P3-500, 512Mb PC133 & TNT M64...freakin tough...:karate:

bo pian, pc was freakin expensive in OZ...:sad5:
