I need recommendations on my system grimicer Oct 30th, 05, 08:49 PM #1 (permalink)
please help me !!

I have a system as below.
my transformer is 400W, so should be able to support the newer systems.

Athlon 1.4 Ghz
512 mb DDR ram
Geforce 2 mx 400

i wanna upgrade my system to play F.E.A.R.
what is a reasonable/budget upgrade.
not working, so tight on budget, around 400-500.

is the ram compatible ?

need recommendations pls !

thanks !!

500 is more than enough for FEAR on decent settings if use back your old components.

have done a lot of sub $600 game systems.

check back at hardwarezone for the rig i proposed using your $400 budget.
For $500, even better.

Definitely no. The Cel D is only 32 bit technology and loses even to the older p4.

The Sempron on the other hand is 64bit. Its also quite a good performer with a stable motherboard.

Why settle for a 9550 when can go for 6600GT. The 9550 barely makes it for gaming unless you are into hardcore overclocking.

His is an old power supply.

The kind of Celeron D overclocking will most likely overload his power supply.

$200 for mobo+cpu and $230 for 6600GT.
Still around the $400 budget.

If user not too fussy about game graphic quality and more interested in the gameplay itself, the rig above should last till next year. enough time to save another $400 for an A64 motherboard + cpu + power supply.

use 500 bucks to top up that Celeron rig

250 for 6600GT AGP

100 for PSU

still 150 left
50 for CPU cooling
100 left for maybe even more powerful VGA card maybe if use less on CPU cooling can get 6800GT 2nd hand

And where is he going to get that extra cash?

Its his savings he is using to get one. He should make the most of it.

At least, when 64bit coded games or software come up...the Sempron 64bit 2500 should have no problems. Tough luck on the Cel d owners.
