Logitech G7 vs mx1000 direwolf104 Nov 1st, 05, 02:26 AM #1 (permalink)
Anyone here bought the logitech G7 already?? tempted to buy one, but used to own a mx1000 and felt that the mouse was too heavy. anyone know if the logitech G7 is lighter or similar in weight to the mx1000???

I upgraded from the MX1000 to the G7.

The weight feels roughly the same when I lift the mouse but the G7 feels alot lighter in normal use because it is alot smoother and the contact area is quite big compared to the small mouse feet on the MX1000.

Here is a list of differences I noticed:

1. The G7 has a slimmer profile like the older MX700 and MX900, not as wide as the MX1000.

2. The G7 only has 1 side button compared to the 3 on the MX1000.

3. The G7 is very smooth all over as compared to the rubberized grip areas of the MX1000.

4. Battery life for the G7 is very short (3 to 4 days) compared to the MX1000, but it comes with 2 batteries that can be swapped very quickly from the charger to the mouse. Whereas with the MX1000, when the mouse ran out of battery you had to put it back in the cradle, with the G7 there is almost no downtime.

5. Resolution is higher for the G7. You can feel the difference from 1600dpi for the MX1000 and 2000dpi for the G7.

I did a test run of the G7 recently to see how it compares to the MX1000. To be honest, although it feels more responsive (on account of its supposedly better RF tech as well as the improved Laser engine) it's by no means as perfect as what you'd get from the G5 - if you're a dedicated gamer - cordless is not the way to go.

Ergonomically the G7 is basically a G5 and the main thing that you lose is the weight adjustment system. In essence the weights are replaced by the battery and this sorta gives you a fixed weight - which i feel is a bit of a minus point because I personally like the weight adjustment mechanism of the G5. Also, the feel of both the G7 and the G5 (and indeed any of the recent MX5XX series mice) is, IMHO, inferior to the MX1000. I find the ergonomics of the MX1000 heavenly, plus the multitude of functions on the MX1000 is a real plus point.

In this respect, I feel that the G7 is not really meant as a "replacement" or "upgrade" of the MX1000, I would see it as more of a "gaming tool" than a "productivity tool". Thus my take would be that if you wanna play but can't stand wires, the G7 is the best option; if you wanna do work, then get the MX1000 for it's extra functionality and great feel; if you are hardcore about games, go get the G5 or Razer's Copperhead. Do note that there is no such thing as the perfect mouse and that all of them have pretty serious flaws here and there, but as long as you are willing to live with those limitations, then they will serve you just fine

- P.S. I will be putting up a thread on HID reviews soon, hope that it helps

get a G5 IMHO, the MX1000 was never meant to be a gaming mouse.

so if i want.. probably will go for G7 ba..
Best mix of versatility vs gaming performance as i like wireless mice..
