help....weird problem... skweam Nov 26th, 05, 12:32 PM #1 (permalink)
i need help.

This morning turned on my com and surf net for awhile and den shut it off. a few mins later i came back and tried turning it on. no image was posted on my monitor.

i decided that it was my Leadtek 6600gt as it had experience problems before. thus i took out my card.

i rebooted again and everythng seems ok until when i reach windows. no pictures were posted on the monitor but the Windows "sound" could be heard!!

this is very weird as i could shut off the com altho i cannot see the pics being posted on the monitor(i press "Windows" on my keyboard, press the UP arrow, enter, press the left arrow, enter and the com shuts off)

I tried with another HDD wid OS installed as this is my second rig's HDD> Everything booted up ok.

wads the problem? is it my GFX? because my com constantly keep freezing wid the GFX. In addition, even after my GFX is taken out, my HDD post problems.

NOTE: When i Put the GFX wid the OK-HDD, the GFX cannot post pictures.

This usually happen if your GFX driver that conflict with your OS. If you have an on board gfx that will be good, else put in a old card. If you use the MB gfx, you got to turn it on if necesary via the bios.

Start up OS, when you get to the Window boot up screen, press F5 or F8 (cant remember) to go to Dos menu mode. Select Repair.

CAn you confirm where you install your OS ? in the HDD itself? In other word, the Window Directory is installed in the same HDD?

This is correct, bec you took out the GFX. So no display from Window itself

This is possible. It means your OS is working fine except display feature is out.

This is possible as your second HDD has OS installed and its display feature is working fine.

Its very likely your GFX or its Drivers or ur PSU.
Taking out ur GFX wont help bec the OS in your that spoild HDD is already mess up. But I am quite confident your Data is intact. PSU may cause problem if its too low as well. 450 above will be good

This is what you can do,

1) do a repair of the OS as listed my first post.
2) get another disk, set it as master. Set the spoil HDD as slave. Reinstall your OS in the new disk. You should be able to read your spoil HDD.

What you need to check,
Check MB is compatible with the GFX.

U welcome,

Since you can boot in safe mode. You need not re-install in another disk.

This is what you can do:
After boot in safe mode, go to add remove program. Remove the GFX driver. Then reboot into normal mode. You should be able to go thru. System will detect the GFX, just use default driver.

Thereafter you can try to reinstall your 6600 gt driver again. But Best you check their web site for Patches.

oh no...not u..haha, coz my situation is different.

i suspect that my gfx is super cock up. thus i took it out of my system (period, now imagine there is no gfx in my system)

when i boot up my rig(widout gfx) everything boots up well....UNTIL when it reaches the windows part, no pics were shown, only the windows song is played.

i used a second hdd and everything is ok,*(note, the 2ndhdd have os installed in it.)

Can u teach/elaborate on how to repair? i have tried but when it asked me to type in a command, i become blur already.

PS: sorry for late reply. u are a great help.

Since you have send it back to check and its working fine, I dont think its your gfx is done-for. Its likely a conflict in the drivers.

Alamak I thought you solve this.
There is what you can do.

Method 1

1) If you have onboard VGA on your MB, turn the VGA on. should be via the bios.
2) reboot and press F5 or F8 to go to dos mode. Select safe mode.
3) You shld be able to see the screen. Once login to window, Remove the GFX driver and its software.

Method 2

1) If you Do Not have onboard VGA on your MB, Put back your 6600GT.
2) reboot and press F5 or F8 to go to dos mode. Select "Last know Good ...."
3) You shld be able to see the screen. Once login to window, Remove the GFX driver and its software. Reboot and use window default driver for GFX
