Planning to build a new rig, could use some comments atarashi Nov 2nd, 09, 01:34 AM #1 (permalink)
I'm planning to build a new rig for heavy usage, mainly gaming and matlab simulations (no OC though)
So on a relatively flexible budget of 2k ++, I worked out the parts that i want to use, but i'm unsure about how they will perform with one another

OS : Windows 7 64bit
CPU : Core i7-860 Quad Core Processor 2.8GHz
Motherboard : MSI P55-GD65 LGA1156
Ram : Corsair XMS3 DHX 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3 DIMM Memory Kit x 2
Graphics :MSI R5850-PM2D1G HD5850 1GB DDR5 PCIE or Sapphire HD5850 1GB DDR5 PCIE VGA or Power Color Radeon HD5850 1GB DDR5 PCIE VGA
Harddisk : Seagate 3.5inh SATA-II 1TB 7200RPM 32MB HD or WD Caviar Black 1 TB 7200 rpm
PSU : Cooler Master RS850-AMBAJ3 Silent Pro M850 850W Power
Misc : Corsair Hydro H50 CPU Cooler / Linksys WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Adapter
Casing : Antec P180 Advanced Super Mid Tower or Cooler Master Praetorian 732 Alumunim ATX Casing

As you can see I have some unsure choices, mainly just between manufacturers, so i would like some recommendations and opinions on that

Thanks!

MB options : Asus, Gigabyte are good also.
Gaphics : PowerColor, Gigabyte, Asus and Force3Dfor ATi option are good as well.
HDs : WD seems to be more popular...
PSU : I heard more Silver and Gold 80 PLUS will becoming soon.. so do take note
Casing: stick to your old Praetorian i suppose. But for a Stell casing.. the P180 is very swell made and designed.

U can consider msi big bang mobo, but i nt sure whether it is out yet,
for the hdd, its better if u get WD Black

Well one form of downgrade i plan to do is to change the PSU to a OCZ StealthXstream 700W Power Supply

As for GPU, I am aiming for the HD5850, but i'm still unsure which manufacturer will give me the best value for money, as seeing how the price difference is only about 50 dollars.

any more opinions on how i can save abit more money ?

Thanks
