too close with 2 x 8800 graphic on the mobo... etegration Nov 8th, 09, 07:40 PM #1 (permalink)
any 3rd party graphic card cooler to replace the 8800's default on that takes up 2 x PCI covers on the casing?

my mobo has not that much spacing for 2 x 8800, i tried and one card's fan is totally blocked.

i guess when that board came out, there's no much graphic card that will take up 2 x PCI covers...

Arctic Cooling

the arctic cooling one should work... not sure if they're still selling it nowadays but I remembered seeing it in Skylet once. (then again skylet is gone liao)

Most boards use that kind of spacing anyway. and you gotta think carefully... is it worth it buying a cooler that costs as much as the card right now

yah lor, i am looking at maybe just change to a XFX 9800GT or soemthing, back to the shorter (in height) design. getting 2 of that for multi screen display still darn cheaper.

Thanks man!

Use HR03+ on 1st card and configured to place HS and fan on the back of the card overhanging the mobo NB. I am doing just that right now using just 1 x 120mm fan to cool both my unlocked 550BE@quad CPU and 88GTX on my test rig.

no i dont. when gaming, i do on screen. from past experience, SLI-ing will disable one card's DVI ports. dunno if that's the case now.

Try Zalman VF-100. I used it on my MATx SLI on the exact vga card, 8800GT x 2. No heat issues as i use a 120mm fan blowing TOWARDS the 2 cards. Works perfectly in my Chenming clone during Lan parties

They've fixed that since the 180 series drivers.

If u need a cooler. Duorb is good.. my previous card was an 88GT + duorb. Duorb performed really well with my 88GT and gave it a 20% o/c.

IIRC, Idle temps was about 42 degs, Load temp is below 60 degs.

BNIB cost about 69$ @ potterhouse i thk.

If u r lookin for an upgrade, probably HIS 4850, or PCS+ 4850.

PwrColor 4850 PCS+ 512mb is about 149$ BNIB. Temps are pretty all right. HIS is abit more premium.

2nd hand 88GT resell price $70~80. Prolly about 90 max.
2nd hand 4850 cost about $100.

Both no warranty.
Prices not very clear but it is just my estimation. But based on this, it is much better more worth it to upgrade to 4850.

Why, stock 4850 performs alot better den a o/ced 8800GT.
If u buy GPU cooler, u wont have an upgrade in perf, just better temp managements. With the same cost, u can get a BNIB 4850 with warranty and 20-25% boost in performance.

i just read it again. nothing changed. i meant just that. SLI-ing will disable 2 out of a total of 4 DVI ports. makes sense i guess. looking at the ATI's Eyefinity technology. at $600 a pop for the 5870, if it's simply multi displays i am going for, i think getting a few more LCDs suits me more than upgading graphic cards. i'm thinking of 4 screens.
