Sorry, not supposed to file the soldering iron tip one.

To keep tip clean go get a piece of sea sponge (SLS Byteron 04-04/SLT) and damp it. Tin the tip by runing solder over it and wipe clean (on the sponge) after that. Wipe between handling, tin before/after use and your iron tip will not get "sooty" over time.

But then only 25W maximum iron can be used for SMT. Too large wattage resistor tend to change value.

you have to file when it gets sooty

    Wrong and wrong!

You do not file the tip!! Never!! The tip is coated because rosins/ flux can be corrosive.. If you file the tip, the coating will come off and the rosin/ flux will eat the tip away...

When the tip gets sooty or dull-looking, you need to use a tip refresher to clean off the oxidation.. Then clean the tip on a wet sponge and prime it with fresh solder..

    Thanks for the guide!

I'm about to order me some variable resistors for that 6600gt vcore/vmem modding, I'm a bit confused though when reading the specs for the resistors:

    Resistance: 10 Ohm
    Turns: 20 x 360°
    Max voltage: 200 V
    Max CRV: 1 %
    Max effect: 0,75 W vid +70 °C
    Resistancetolerance: ±10 %
    Temperature-coefficient: ±100 ppm/°C
    Temperature-range: −55 till +125 °C

    will this do the job?

..if I have the wrong one could you please point me to a proper one?

    thanks

Could U tell me please how (where) exactly to measure Vcore voltage (I suspect the info from BIOS is not correct) of EPoX 9NPA+ SLI ->http://www.epox.nl/images/products/m...20sli_full.jpg

You should start a sperate thread for this, but here you go:

measure the MOSFET legs with your multimeter and check which one reads 1.xxx v. thats ur vcore read.
Be careful not to shoert out neighbouring legs....
