What else (features) do you need on an AMD based ITX board? I think the MINIX has pretty much everything that is needed.

Well, for the MINIX, its not full X16 but I dont really see the performance drop in any sense. Its just the users who wants to see the number that say its X16. .

Atom setup for the kid inside you dr_disciple Oct 14th, 09, 03:10 AM #1911
For those who did not get enough of robots when they are young, here's the fix.

Does it transform - No.

Does it move - I don't think so

Does it shoot deadly laser from the head - If you have enough juice

Does it display from the ass - shove a vga up his ass and it will.

Hi dr,,
mind if i check with you if you have any recommendations to buid a 4-6 bay NAS/ vm test /media server. It would be great if the components in the main board would work with ESXi Server.. hehe.. currently have an itch to play with that.

Any similar casing to
Chenbro 4xhotswap casing ?
I like the chenbro casing as i can have a fifth hdd just purely for OS/download, hence the storage hdds won't be filled with OS/temp download stuff. But i am not sure about paying extra for the hot-swap which i don't need. Cooling may be an issue as i plan to run it 24/7. power consumption is something i may consider too. But it beats running my main i7 rig 24/7.

Currently, for storage, i have 2x1TB and 2x1.5TB WD Greens. I am looking to run raid 1s for the respective sets. It would be good to have on-board raid, but not required as i can always grab an external raid card.

Thanks in advance babe! =X

ES34069 Chenbro - The 5th HDD will be a 2.5" hdd. Depending on what board you are using (preferably 6 SATA or 4 SATA + 1 eSATA). Right now I'm using a J&W MINIX 780G board (it has Raid 0,1 and 0+1), using the 4 sata ports for the storage drives and eSATA for the O/S drive and IDE for the optical drive (Blu-Ray).

Any other motherboards you can recommend that is cheaper, as i am not planning to run a htpc, mainly a nas/server role. i don't really need the media features of Minix-780G, otherwise! it is a great board!

My plans for an htpc would be a console gaming machine/ say a ps3 with a media server (this current itx i am thinking of) transcoding/streaming the video to it.

I wonder if that is feasible?? hmm..

Currently marvell is not supported by vmware (unless u wanna play with the kernel, saw someone posted modified drivers on the web before, but dun try without knowing what u r doing)

esxi will not be able to detect marvel, im using a work around way by using a dual intel nic adapter which works wonder

Alternatively i tried citrix's xenserver, i would save alot more free features compared to vmware esxi but i feel not as stable as vmware. The process for shut down or reboot is slow and sometimes even hang.

It will be interesting if all 3 port works on vmware, i would like to have firewall, AD, file server , web app server and db server all in one box not forgeting openvpn too...haha

I assume you are talking about this post
Using a Marvell LAN card with ESXi 4 | KernelCrash

Hehe, for a linux newbie like me.. it seems like a thesis on quantum physics.
