Pros and cons of using xeon as desktop processor

As title. Am thinking if it can be used and if its worth the money getting the server processor as desktop processor.

no cons except the costs. xeons are just rebranded desktop processors really.

some setups require fb/registered/ecc ram modules.

So wad is the price premium really for? So is a 600plus xeon processor as fast as an i7? And does xeon uses less power?

Those Uni Processor Xeons (3XXX) are sold at the exact same price by Intel as the equivalent desktop counterparts.

    W3530 same price as i7 930
    W3565 same price as i7 960
    W3580 same price as i7 975
    W3680 same price as i7 980X

Xeon can take non-ECC also. It's just that the ECC controller onboard will only serve as deadweight.

Is this true nowadays? Many years back the most budget celeron can be used in a dual CPU m/b (Abit BP-6). Now technology is moving backwards?
