From what i know, few years back (during the late 90s) the telcos would help customers to blacklist the stolen phone with the imei. But i think they have since stop this service, for what reason not sure. So if lost phone just pray that he will sell to shop; if he keep it for personal use, quite impossible to track it down, unless sway sway kenna police spot check.

if i remember correctly, back in the 90s, phones didn't use sim cards so if the telco cancelled the line for that lost phone, then that's it. that phone is useless.

Here in the Phils. we simply go to NTC "national tel com" and report our lost cp with IMEI and box.. then just for an hour, the cp will be blocked and cannot register to any networks..

i'm using a symbian software call vms protection for my N82. it able to detect sim card change and encrypt the sms, picture, video ,mp3, contact immediately. then sent sms alert to a specific hp no.

i set the program to send sms alert to my girl fren hp, so if he/she change the sim card, i still can get the phone no. and call to the phone, ask them return the phone to me or may be return the memory card which contain all my contact, sms, picture etc.
* note. the guy who own your phone may be innocense victim too, coz i believe the guy who stole your phone won't keep it for own use, he will try to sell it to other ppl. for me , what 's inside the memory card far more important than the phone itself.
