Alright.. im sure there're now many VR members using Sony Ericsson's mobile now... example, de K750i & W800i and needless to say that the k750i is definately da HOTTEST phone in town now ever since 5/6 months ago till date ! price hasnt dropped much at all as compared to other phones but rather had hiked a little due to such great and popular demand on it... I've personally never liked Sony Ericsson mobiles before due to its non-user friendly features etc. but now that de k750i has been introduced to this world.. its inevitable for me to get hold of it ! it seems like the local market for Sony Ericsson has grown so much larger due to the release of k750i and w800i but it'll only continue to increase when its W900i is out with integrated 3G feature on =D

Decided to start this club since no one had done so yet...

What are the differences between the k750i and the w800i?

The most obvious difference is the external housing. Other than this, the hardware (camera, speaker, chips, screen size, weight, etc) for both phones are the same.

For the software/firmware, the w800i has a Flight mode, which isn't present in the k750i. This mode allows users to turn off the phone function and use it solely as an MP3 Player.

Also, the k750i Activity button brings you to the Shortcut, New Events and Bookmarks menu.
The w800i button is a shortcut to Media Player.

Lastly, the standard packages are different. The w800i comes with the HPM-70 handsfree, which has in-ear type earpieces & allows you to attach your own earphones/headphones. The k750i comes with a normal handsfree set.

The w800i also comes with a 512MB Memory Stick PRO Duo, while the k750i comes with a 64MB Memory Stick Duo stick.

Check for firmware version

Press >*<<*<* whilst in the main / standby screen. The arrows denote pressing of the joystick in the appropriate direction.

Firmware version is under Service info-> Software info.

How to update my firmware?

The latest firmware version for both the k750i and w800i is R1AA008 (As Of Jan 06)

You will need to access the online Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) to upgrade your firmware. Follow the instructions provided.

According to the official specifications, the k750i / w800i supports Memory Stick PRO Duo of up to 2GB.

How to install applications\games to my phone?

Transfer the *.jar file into your memory stick's Other folder. Browse for the jar file using File Manager. There is an Install option. You may delete the jar file in your memory stick once installation is complete.

What can I use to save my phone contacts / SMSes to my PC?

Use floAt's Mobile Agent or MyPhoneExplorer

What is the maximum number of SMSes the phone stores?

The max no is 200. To view the number of SMSes you currently have, select File Manager -> press More -> Memory Status. Scroll down to Messages.

I've set a MP3 as the SMS alert tone. But it doesn't play the full MP3 when a message arrives!

The maximum duration for the message alert is 10 seconds.

Can I set different ringtones for different profiles?

No, you can't. One ring(tone) to rule them all (profiles).

What's RDS and how do I use it?

RDS stands for Radio Data Service. If a particular radio station supports this, then info like the name of the station will be automatically shown. For instance, when you tune to 93.3, the title of the station will change to Yes 93.3. Not all stations support this, so it does not work for all stations.

I can't activate the Media Player or Radio function via the Music button if the handsfree is not inserted!

This is normal behaviour.

Can I listen to MP3s / radio using my Bluetooth headset?

Unfortunately, no. The phones do not support A2DP (Advanced Audio Delivery Profile) Bluetooth profile.

How do I access my w800i's Flight Mode?

To do so, simply turn off your phone. Power it up again, and choose the "WALKMAN Player only" option.

Snap those photos while in Flight Mode!

The w800i's Flight Mode allows you to access the WALKMAN Player function without turning on the phone's transmitting functions (ideal for use during flights).

You can actually also access the Camera function while in Flight Mode. Simply lock the keypad, open the camera lens and snap away at the (hopefully) pretty cabin crew!

Can I turn off the shutter sound while taking photos?

Yes. While in the standby screen, press the # key to switch to Silent mode. Access the Camera function and the shutter sound is now turned off.

How do I record videos longer than 10 seconds?

You'll need to switch the Shoot Mode to High Quality. Press 0 when in video mode.

Tips for Camera function

1 = Opens menu with "picture size" ready to select
4 = Toggles Macro mode (for close up photos)
7 = Toggels Night mode
* = Toggles Light
0 = While in video mode toggles length of recording.

Press < or > to adjust the exposure.

Lazy to access the Camera function through the Menu? Simply press and hold the camera button and the Camera function will be activated!

Tips for Media Player (video)

Note: For the below to work, you need to play the video using the Media Player.

(1) To capture a video frame as an image file, first Pause the Video, then select More -> Capture frame. The image will be stored in your phone memory's Pictures folder.

(2) Slide the joystick down during video playback and the video will be in slow-motion.

Tips for Media Player (music)

k750i / w800i

Press > for next track, < for previous track, ^ to pause song.

Press and hold > or < to scroll back / forward song.

While in Minimized mode, press and hold the "-" volume button for next song. Conversely, press and hold "+" for previous song.

w800i

Instead of the joystick, you can press the 1 or 3 key to navigate between tracks. Press 2 to pause/play, and 4 or 6 can be used to fast forward or rewind a track.

Tips for Radio function

Pressing # during radio play and you'll be able to type in the radio station frequency.

While in Minimized mode, press and hold the "-" volume button for next available station (note: not next preset station). The "+" volume button will tune to the prev available station.

What video / audio files does the phone support?

Video Support : mpeg-4, 3gpp, h.263, xmf, svgt
Audio Support : midi, midi40, amr, aac, wav, mp3, mp4

What do those 3 overlapping squares at the top left denote?

It signifies that you are using a profile other than the default "normal" profile.

Get to those contacts using your number keys

While in the standby screen, you can access your contacts by pressing and holding any of the number keys 2 to 9.

For instance, press and hold '2' will take you to the phone book entry starting with the letter 'A'. Press and hold '3' will take you to 1st entry starting with the letter 'D'. And so on.

Can I change the housing of my k750i to w800i or vice versa?

Yes, you can. However the warranty of your phone may be void. The housings may be purchased from places like ebay or www.cnn.cn. Instructions on how to rip apart the k750i. It should be the same for w800i.

Can I use the default headset/handsfree of the w800i (HPM-70) on the k750i?

Yes, you can!

How do I read text files with the phone?

You can create *.txt files with any word processing program (eg MS Word or Notepad) and then send the file to the Web Pages\Save Pages folder.

You can also create text files with MS Word and save them as a web page (*.htm). This is useful especially if you are using foreign characters, as they will sometimes not appear if saved as a *.txt file.

Have your Notes on your standby screen!

Want to see your notes on the main standby screen? Simply access the Main Menu -> Organizer -> Notes -> Add a New Note. Once you've added the note, Save it. Highlight the new Note, press the right button for the More option, and choose Show On Standby.
