my bro is using the HTC dream, i sort of played around with the andriod OS and compared with my HTC touch pro's winmo OS, andriod is kinda "fun" to use, and with the right apps it can bring out much more for the phone...

however there are some things that i would like the dream/andriod have would be things like installing software on the SD card... I cant do that for the HTC dream with the latest android version, but not sure abt the rest of the android phones. there are some other things that i think winmo can do but android can't...

but overall, i personally feel that android is more of a out-of-the-box, user friendly OS as compared to winmo... I think comparing both OSes, a newbie to touch-screen smartphones would adapt to android easier than the winmo... But being said, as a long time winmo user, i will still stick to winmo sadly...

Like i say again... it's just my personal views...

Android will be more useful if you're already using Gmail, GCal as the phone needs to be tied to a Google account.
Having a previous account helps, as it will just sync your Google Contacts, Mail & Calendar with your phone.

One bad thing is battery life sucks.

Am using a HTC Dream.
I do agree the battery life sucks.
But on the other hand, andriod OS is great for my purpose

The market place has tons of apps which you can download.
I don't vouch for the games as I don't really play much, but use a fair amount of utilities .e.g MythTV Remote Controller, Gmote Controller to link to my home PCs, Home network.

The current andriod OS Hero is meant as the challenger to iPhone 3GS.
As friends used to flame me.
"Normally buying an andriod OS phone puts you in the anti-Apple crowd, so what the heck you got a iPod Nano, 1st Generation Touch and yet get a HTC Dream?"

Different stokes, different needs I guess.
Apple store, free apps are quite lame, good apps, end up paying for me.

it possible to modify the underlying OS function so that Andriod will treat the SDcard as part of its system memory.

only side effect is... the SDCard is kinda tattered to the phone.
testing?

Been on Android for about 5 weeks with G1/Dream. Came with 1.0 but OTA upgrade to 1.5 was available once I turned it on. It is my first ever touch-screen smartphone but it only took me half an hour to figure out 90% of what I need to know to use the phone.

Flashed to a custom ROM two weeks ago so that I can try advanced features. So now, I have the most important feature: ability to use the SD card for apps.

The sync feature with Google services is the killer-app for me. I use Google Calendar heavily and the assurance that I won't lose any of my contacts by losing the phone will make me stick to this platform for the foreseeable future.

Yup, Apps2SD is based on creating symbolic links to the files on the SDcard.

But Magic & Hero users don't really need it, there's ample internal memory for apps.

And custom ROMs rock with Android!

It sure is great to be able to wipe the phone and still have the apps in SD intact, though.

Using the HTC Dream G1, rooted and flashed to 1.5 Google Ion. LOVE the fact that it syncs to google contacts.

Only con i've been living with is that it can't transfer files through bluetooth though.

Either use BlueX (paid app) or Bluetooth File Transfer (free)

Btw, to flash custom ROMs on the Dream, do you need to flash any SPL or radio images?

Or just use a recovery image to flash the ROM?

Cuz I'm using a Magic, just wondering if it's the same steps as mine.
