Synopsis:
As part of Milestones music offerings at Empress Place, Timbre Music presents the Milestones Double Bill on 27 June 2009 at the River Promenade in front of Timbre @ The Arts House with opening by Lorraine Ayensu trio, one of the best live outfits from the UK, whose sounds have been likened to Tracy Chapman and Joan Armatrading and renowned Cuban pianist Nachito Herrera.
Lorraine Ayensu trio delivers tender ballads to up-tempo and Latin-influenced tunes, a seamless blend of folk, acoustic soul, world beat and urban jazz. Audiences are often amazed by the fullness of the sound with just Lorraine on guitar and vocals, British composer Norma Daykin on alto and electronic saxophones and Ghanaian maestro Nii Tagoe on percussions. It is the best of British and American song-writing sensibilities fused with other rhythms from around the world.
Acclaimed pianist Nachito Herrera stunned Cuban audiences at the age of twelve, performing Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 2 with the Havana Symphony Orchestra. His love of classical music quickly combined with traditional Cuban rhythms under the instructions of Cuban masters Rubén González, Jorge Gomez Labraña and Frank Fernández. Nachito was also lead pianist, arranger and musical director with ¡Cubanismo! playing at many of the world?s finest concert halls and prestigious festivals while cultivating a passion, talent and reputation in Latin Jazz; a striking influence in his music today.
