If you are on router, port forwarding should do the job, Some tweaking such as disabling UPnP Setting on your BT Preferences, disable Window Firewall are some of the basic stuff. Limiting your download speed and upload speed play a important role too. 80% of your maximum upload speed is the best. If problem are still not solve, most probably StinkNet is the culprit =)

port forwarding, i only forward the listening ports. is there any other ports i should open?
and those settings were disabled, i followed the stuff mentioned in portforward.com. does the uploading speed affect much of the downloading speed? i left my upload speed as no limit because i dunno wat to put there

I think u still have to consider the torrent u r downloading. I have 3 torrents downloadin concurrently. Those 2 of them are good torrents around 40-60KBps where as the bad torrent has never hit above 25KBps and with a average abt 10-15KBps.

So i think having 40KBps is consider good already. When i started using BitTorrent, i don even know have to configure portforwarding and suffer at the spd <10KBps.
Everyone was once a noob~

Taking the fact that ADSL user were always affect because of the in-proportional Download and Upload speed setting they have in BT. And so, never leave your upload speed to Unlimited. I strongly suggest you switch to uTorrent as mentioned by franklhy. BitComet seems to be somehow !@#@!# for me too. By using uTorrent, I can hit the MAX spd of d/l. Hope this answer your doubt.

You can act accordingly to the setting but not for speed setting. Perform a speed test at http://www.speedtest.net and get the rest done.

That's incorrect. I am using BitTornado and my settings see me uploading at 5KB/sec and downloading and 80% of my 1.5Mbps bandwidth. So I don't think ADSL users are really affected at all. It's usually the settings that's causing problems. However, I do seem to hit some walls with my BitComet experience so I went back to BitTornado. Safe & sound...

Well, if you say that, I don't really agree with you totally too. The setting do play a part, maybe not clear enough to be noticed. Perhaps different Client play a huge factor on the download. However, 80% is a recommended percentage which was widely used, and is just a piece of advice. BitComet somehow lag your computer when it is running as compared to other Client which was not doing that much. Maybe we have different experience, its hard to explain. As for limyc, yes for your qns. Trial & Error would be great if you try it out to allow your Client perform at the very best.
