Questions about Generation MIO Crazy Feb 3rd, 07, 05:53 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi Guys,
Just my opinon, Generation MIO is something that is new. However there are many things that are not make known to us yet.

I am suggesting to all not to switch over this first until those issues are resolved.
Thats it.. I have enough of bad decisions.. i'm gone.. no more crazy le.

(1) Telephone line is digital. Not those ADSL 2 type. So in order to get the voice,
the connection needs to be digital. Plug in normal phone won't work
(2) If don't want MIO liao, need to deactivate and switch the connection back else
it cannot be used
(3) MIO voice is recommended to use digital phone or DECT phone as I believe
normal phone would have problem with it

Singtel claims overwhelming response so MIO voice now signup only March can have it

(1) no, it is still analog, ADSL2+. Plug in normal phone will work also.

(2) you have 2 choices. You can keep the current line, and pay as per normal, and additionally, add in the Mio Voice. This way, you will still have to pay the current fee + the Mio Voice fee. Else, cut the line totally and go Mio. That, you only pay monthly subscription to Mio. Once you dun wan Mio, you have to reapply for a phone number, just like what our parents did.

(3) Recommends DECT because it has better coverage than normal analog wireless phones. You can still use any normal phones connected to it. DECT still outputs analog signal to the exchange anyway, not digital.

MIO Voice is same as Starhub's Digital voice right?

I go Courts Tampines, got say some DECT phones cannot work with SH's Digital Voice..
I think coz of the FSTK or some ITU standard that the DECT phones dun support.
But some models specifically say can support Digital Voice

I dunno about SH's service... but the MIO can use any phone... just dun plug those digital phones in can liao...

please note hor... digital phones I mean serious digital phones like those ISDN, or digital PABX used in offices....

DECT is just digital on the wireless part, while the signal out from phone to exchange is analog

(1) The person in Singtel told me it's not analogue but it's a VoIP line. So it will switch to digital. Not sure whether is it adsl but I did asked him specifically whether can I just plug in the phone and use. He says cannot cos if it's analogue and not activated before, a technician will come down and do modification on the phone jack. This is what I was being told

(2) Did asked the question also. Once you subscribe to Mio voice and decided not to use it and wanna switch back to normal one, they need to come down and modify the phone jack if you decided not to use Mio. Cutting the line don't help as even u cut the line and reapply the normal analogue phone, the line still cannot work unless they come down and modify and deactivate the Mio voice

(3) Ya normal phone can still use..they just recommend use digital

trust me... know what I am saying...

(1) you are still using the same old copper line which your house has been using for the past many years. the only difference is that you are connected to a DSLAM before getting to the exchange, whereas previously, its directly to the exchange, and the ATM/fiber network.

Currently, all ADSL/2+ users are still on analog lines. You dun believe, you ask any ADSL user plug their phone into the wall socket and see if it will work. The same line is used for voice, and datam but at different freq, thats why you need the micro filter.

What happens in MIO is this.

They will cut your current line from the exchange, and connect from the DSLAM to the backend ATM/Fiber network. The ATM/fiber network will have all the data, voice, integrated and transmitted to the MIO device.

On the Mio device, the data part is still data, and the analog part is converted from digital to analog, and then to the phone.

(2) The Phone jack is NEVER changed. Still using the same RJ-11 jack.
So your phone MUST BE analog.

You do not have to deactivate anything. Everything can be done at the back end.

Look, Mio is still riding on the same ADSL2+ technology Singnet is using lah.

I tell you, those who gave you those answers ah... ought to be shot... I dun think they even know how mio works...

Like to ask some questions on mio.

I have Singnet and Singtel Phone Line but no Mobile.

From what I know, you need 3 to be eligible for mio.
So now I must buy a mobile plan, right?

Say if I buy a very expensive plan and then subscribe to mio, I still pay $68?

$68 includes Singnet, Home Phone & Mobile Phone? or Do I need to pay $68 + Mobile Bill?

That's all.

DO NOT mistake Mio Mobile with SIngtel Mobile.

Singtel mobile is the normal GSM mobile system.

Mio Mobile is using a VoIP/Wireless capable handphone and connected to the mio device at home/Singtel hotspots, and you can call through wireless for free, at $10.50 every month.

And if you want to use the GSM network, you still need to pay subscription.

The Mio plan has many plans within.

You can apply for Home tel (mio voice), or Mio Mobile, or mio voice + SNBB, or the "mio plan".

The "Mio Plan" itself consists of Singnet + Home phone (mio voice) + Mobile (GSM) plans, and excludes the Mio mobile.

$68 Mio plan includes SNBB 3Mbps/ iOne Plus/ Home Tel

seriously, if you are a subscriber of all the 3 services from Singtel, go for the Mio....

I am now paying $88 for my SNBB10, $8.75 for my home (excluding call cahrges), and $25.20 for my mobile, totalling $121.95 per month...

On Mio plan, I pay $83 for all of the above, saving $38.95 every month or 31.93% of savings man...

even if taking the current SNBB10 price (with no freebies), you are still going to pay $18.95 less on the above plans.
