Want to specify spcific NIC for special usage man_at_work Apr 18th, 07, 02:06 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi,

I have question regarding NIC, nowadays is common that the motherboard come with 2 NIC port.

Can I specify that NIC1 for internet usage and the second NIC is for non internet usage e.g. remote desktop connection to another machine or transfering huge file to make use of the gigabit port

Problem encountered is when the second NIC is connected , then the internet connection will try to use the second NIC which resulted not able to surf the net.

Can anybody help? Currently using WinXP SP2

Yes its possible. Remove the default gateway from your 2nd NIC. Ask if you need more details, I'll see if I can dig up a link.

Edit: There's an easier way. Go to 'Network Settings'. In the 'Advanced' menu choose 'Advanced Settings'. You can choose the priority in the topmost box. Move NIC1 above NIC2 and it should work.
