LAN Network at home? luntut Apr 22nd, 07, 03:55 PM #1 (permalink)
I have a desktop and 2 laptops at home, and currently i am on maxonline express, and using a netgear wireless router. my desktop is currently hooked to e wireless router, and the router to my surfboard.

i was wondering if my netgear wireless router allows me to set up a network at home with my 3 systems, so i can transfer files freely from one to another. i read somewhere online that its possible to do so with the wireless router, but i cant remmeber where i read that already...

and is it possible to be connected to such a LAN network wirelessly? or does e laptops need to be wired too?

been tinkling with the wireless router settings all afternoon. could not get my laptops or desktop to detect each other on e file sharing thingie.

my desktop is running on windows xp, and e 2 laptops are on vista. could it be another source of problem?

my router model is MR814v2

Possible to transfer via wireless also. My main rig is connected to my router on LAN and my spare on wireless. Jus that speed is slower as compared to all using LAN.

In windows XP, go to netowrk connections and click on the left side set up home or office network. So you can share files and printer on the network.

I am not sure about vista settings as i haven't got my hands on the OS.

and make sure all are in the same "workgroup" or else cannot see each other via "My Network Places".

Speed of file transfers is not very good... about 2Mb plus only. I still haven't figured out why this is so slow, since Wireless Gs supposed to transfer at 54Mbs....

For me it's faster to burn to CD/DVD and bring the disk over.
