Network Booster bluecoral May 3rd, 07, 10:32 AM #1 (permalink)
Does anyone know any good brand of network booster or repeater ?
wired network
got any recommendation and hopefully some contacts or link to view
the basic network structure is from a cat 5 network to a cat 6 uplink to the main router.

thanks in advance!

Why don't you try a more powerful antenna first?

why maximum of 4 switches? they have barely any performance loss.

but 4 hubs will destroy throughput that's for sure.

yup so just have a switch with at least 2 ports every 100 meters. that will work. even a lousy switch.

You can have three hub between router.
But if the distance is very long convert to optical fiber will be cheaper.

switches will be faster.

fiber, counting cables and media converters, will be more expensive compared to 3 5-port switches, which will cost around less than $100 in total.

Switch can extend many times, because it can process data/frames, while the hub can only regenerate and forward the packets as it is a OSI layer 1 component.

I also remember roughly about the max of 4 repeaters rule. Something like 5 networks, 4 max repeaters for a joined collision domain. Google about network 5-4-3-2-1 rule. Came across this rule donkey years ago. But this is for base T networks. Think it doesn't apply for switched networks.
