Actually, most home routers do not have such functionality, but the Linksys WRT54G that I use can be hacked to do proper routing. Certainly it involves fooling around with the command line by telnet'ing into the box and some arcane iptables bull, but it will work.

I have got my box doing NATting AND routing at the same time both with public and private IP addresses.

I was taught at CISCo lessons that Hubs Distribute Packet at all Computers connected to their ports. But Routers or switches just deliver packets to the one computer that its supposed to go to.
So Hub is Something Od that is not Reccomended to use, because you might get a lot of network Crashes. Just og get yourself an 8 port Switch since those things are really cheap.

Just read what rebootz worte that explains it all. HuB was an initial Verion, then As an improvement Switches were realeased because Hibs cause a lot of Collisions.

hub sounds like hut
router sounds like root beer XD
*runs*
funny thing is , if you use MSN to xfer files over the hub , you DO get speeds compared to shared folder/network neighborhood ....i guess m$ has something to do with this ^^|||

Traditional bridges are just about obselete as switches are cheap now. They were meant to reduce collisions between huge hubs (network segements). -From a old networking book,

For home use, hubs are still fine. But for companies, the price difference isn't that great, so switches are recommended to save on headaches.

Another way to look at it:-

Hub = express way without lane marking, cars will any how travel on it. collision highly possible, then caused conjestion

switch = expressway with lane marking, car move orderly in their respective lane, conjestion still possible if there are too many cars

router = junction @ road. whereas hub and switch allows you to be in the common road, it will only take you to where the road goes. They link up different roads!

hope this helps!

Enterprise network such as the one like SSC has usually hangs off a switch. This slowness can be a result of slow network link, faulty hardware OR bad application programming/scripting etc. If you are using this application alot. It will be best if you contract the webmaster and get them to look into this. Hope it helps!

it's probably everyone trying to book at the same time and overloading the application server, not to mention "bad" programming may be at fault. Some wat similar to the CORS effect. heh.

Friend you can take same work from different devices so that may be hub or router .it depends upon the work you are requiring from those devices. There are different layers in networking and different devices are used at different layers as at network layer routers are used and at data link layer hubs are used..so there is small difference between there working.

We must know what is he going to do with its network? If it is sharing the internet or just practicing networking? It must be clarify to us what is it all about.

router is a level 3 devices which identifies ip, switch is a level 2 device which identifies MAC address and hub identifies nothing. It only copies the file to all the ports.
hub increases collision domain so decreases the bandwidth.
for sharing internet at home switch is good, for connecting two networks router is needed
