no need. use dd-wrt v24 beta. yes, you can repeat wireless@SG in that way.

just log on once with your com to the network and you're good to go.
Networking: Thomson ST536v6, AEBS N Gigabit, WRT54GL
Portables: MacBook Unibody 2.4GHz

Yes!

This is very much possible with a little inventiveness on your part and a little invesment.

The trick is to put up a back to back repeater configuration using 2 Aceess points.

The best way is to use one access point and one router

The way for you to do it is to invest on a good cheap very reliable easy to configure Access Point + an external outdoor antenna you put in your window to pick up the wireless SG signal

You would need to connect as a wirelss client first thru wired ethernet and set the AP to get auto IP from wireless SG server

If your able to connect then you would now need to put up a router inside your residence hardwired to get the IP from the AP with the external antennae

The best way to configure these two is to identify the gateways from singtel

If you can put the gateway address as well as the DNS server address of wireless SG at the AP that is the best configuration... your AP just needs to secure a valid IP from the server

APs have what we call wireless client modes

Next is to translate those settings to your router

The trick is to have your AP seen by the router as the gateway but still relying on the DNS server of Wireless SG from Singtel

Then you would have virtually free wireless at your home for the duration of the promo of wireless SG

Hope the above info helps....

repeating signal of wireless@sg into your home or even to all your neighbours Bobchng Dec 5th, 08, 03:41 PM #4 (permalink)
I stayed on the 6th floor and I suspect the nearest wireless@sg is about 400M away (after checking from Google Earth) with some trees blocking. I can see the wireless@sg SSID at times on my laptop, but never have change to connect to it, even using a external wireless adapter with bigger Antenna. Even, I get connected when lucky, there's nothing and the signal gets cut off again.

I recently used an Engenius EOC-2610 to grab the very faint signal of the nearby wireless@sg signal and it has a feature to also repeat it wirelessly at the same time. Hence, only no other router or access point required.

It also support DD-WRT, though using the Engenius' firmware is good enough to obtain what i wanted.

https://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down...senao-eoc2610/

It comes with Power over Ethernet and it is an Out Door Unit! With a massive 10dBi built-in Antenna and its brute radio power (7-8 times than my innocent (D-link AP) , I just hang it outside my window with mounting positions to just put the cable ties to it (cool) and i don't have to worry either rain or shine.

Now, I think almost my whole block has the wireless@sg signal : ) Been using it for 1 month or more and connection is super stable, better than I connecting directly in Mcdonalds!

Cheers..
