SNBB now giving which wireless modem? centrino May 7th, 07, 09:50 PM #1 (permalink)
Hi guys...anybody recently recontracted their SNBB and got the free/paid wireless modem?i'm recontracting SNBB 1500 and may get the wireless modem cos my house still using Wireless B(linksys router and speedtouch home). prefer to have an AIO router+modem to save electrical plugs.

so which modem are they giving?
the usual 2wire one? or the thomson speedtouch with 4 ports switch or no switch at all? oh ya, is is worthwhile to get the 5mbps @ 49.95 or shall i stick to 1.5mbps @39.95. i dun really need the full 5mbps though....

thanks all!

request for a speedtouch if possible. speedtouch using thomson OEM firmware works wonders.

speedtouch is much better than 2wire.

mostly because 2wire clearly distinguishes between business and consumer products in terms of quality.

on the other hand thomson consumer products seem to inherit more from their professional line, since thomson is a telephony products manufacturer.

the 2wire is also very bad for BTing. i believe you can request for speedtouch. try your luck

aztech and prolink are brands to steer clear from imho.

their products are disgusting and plasticky and firmware is usually buggy.

Aztech products are physically ugly and performance very very average to below average, try not to get it unless they're dirt cheap
Intel Xeon E3110 → MSI P35 Neo2-Fr → XV 9600GT → Corsair XMS2 1GBx2 → WD 160GB Seagate 320GB → LG GH20N 20X SATA → CoolerMaster M520 → 19' AL1914 LCD

the latest oem firmware for my st536v6 is 6.2H5.

and unlike singtel firmware which forces me to use PPPoE, the oem one lets me use PPPoA and bridge mode as well.

PPPoA is marginally faster as the protocol has less overhead.

anyway i needed it in bridge mode because my router is powerful enough and i need the external "virgin" IP for dyndns and stuff.

hmm which model are you using? i can help you obtain OEM firmware.

then you can see the difference haha. but i really don't know if they will honour the warranty. you can just tell them that you found it on the speedtouch site and didn't know you couldn't upgrade. hmm.

i got a reply from singnet...mostly will give 2wire...speedtouch 585 subject to availiability... so the 585 is definitely much better than 2wire using the default firmware right?
