I changed to 100 for my friend. For myself, I don't have to do anything since it's WinXP SP1

Hi ppl. Since this evening, i'm experiencing bandwidth problem with starhub maxonline 2000. Each time i start downloading stuff with bitcomet, i wouldn't be able to surf the internet. I had previously set my max half-open connections to 100 (for my OS which is Win XP Pro SP2) and bitcomet max h-open connections to 90 and it was running fine. I would be able to download stuff at 100kb/s and still able to surf the net. Now, when the downloading reaches around 10kb/s i would not be able to surf net. What could be the other causes? my upload speed is only 20kb/s. Experts pls advise.

I'm not an expert... But here goes: basically, the total amount bandwidth you get isn't an issue with the half-open connection limit that WinXP SP2 imposes. You might wish to check that StarHub isn't blocking/throttling ports or modems that are running P2P programs...

In terms of you not being able to surf while running P2P programs, check that your CPU resources are not eaten up by something else, or it might be that as cable is a "share" resource, everyone else might be competing for bandwidth too.

this feature by microsoft is actually to hinder viruses from doing its max damage or omething, or slow it down, however it slows other connections too. i noticed that the link may not be working, i will try to find a mirror for you guys asap, should it be down. you can increase it to over 10k or something, i increased mine to 70.

Well, I've set mine at 2048... The number is arbitrary and totally up to you.
