Gone with Dlink DIR-655 A3 - 1.10 Blue Lights tipstir Apr 11th, 08, 07:18 AM #1 (permalink)
Let's hope my luck with these Draft N 2.0 routers will work for my complex network.

Don't know about this one yet, but I can tell you that savings are quick and manual configuration seems to hold up. I'll see how it goes.
Design of the A3 panel layout is bit different than the prior.. I had to get this at a Warehouse as the store I had purchased DIR-615 only had older hardware version of DIR-615, DIR-625 and DIR-655. No sense getting into another mess again..

Sad this was a very quick router P2P was about the same as my old Dlink DI-604 which had earned 4 stars out of 5. DIR-615 A1 hardware just doesn't work right and it's extremely slow to update or should I say if it did update correctly as it just blow out all my settings and just refuse to load the Admin Mode. The only way to get back into was to unplug it and hope that would do it. Drops in Wireless connections to the internet is really bad WAN side. LAN was okay! WAN on wired side was okay, but Wireless WAN was bad and at times slow..

Story with these I had purchased back in 11/07 two of these at different times and was going to use one as access point but both had failed within one week of each other with drop in connections on both LAN and WAN Buffalo way to solve this problem was to update the firmware but the one I was using was the same one they wanted me to use which came with the unit. Go Figure.

Dlink DIR-655
275MHz 32-bit CPU
Ubicom StreamEngine 5160 + DSP
L1 - 16kb cache - instructions + 8kb cache data
DDR2 2GB Controller
SDRAM 192KB

Dlink DIR-615 A1 and the Buffalo WZR2-G300N both have the Marvel Orion SOC 500MHz 32-bit CPU Although to me this CPU is quicker it still falls short of the problems with the hardware that it has to work with. Just too bad DIR-655 doesn't have 500MHz or the new 600MHz in the next Marvel Orion SOC. Still my Internet Gateway (Internet Connection Status) now reads 100MB for the WAN which that icon comes and goes on some XP Pro or XP MCE boxes. Like I've done before I've turned on UPnP discovery so when the DIR-655 gets connected to the PC I am using or not it displays Xtreme N GIG Router is now connected and also got the Internet Connection one pops up mostly when you turn on the PC. Router one shows up everytime I do a major saved in the router configuration. Router icon appears in My Network Places also.

Dlink DIR-615 B2 uses the same CPU in the DIR-655 without the Stream Engine..

When I had the DIR-615 A1 and used Azureus plus PG2 I average 1.79 MB/s.

When I do the same with DIR-655 A3 and use Azureus plus PG2, I average jump to 2.01 MB/s but then the file completed the transfer and that's only with 60 Max Sim Connections Open. I'll bump that up to 80 very soon.

Buffalo with Marvel I got 2.63 MB/s and 41,300 in download speed from Speedtest.net. I'll test DIR-655 soon.

Again your result may vary.. I have all my network tweaks applied to all my systems, but I did increase the LAN Buffer to 32768 in TCP Optimzer you could go 65535 but I didn't see much improvement. Some say you should decrease TCP Connection Speed instead of 20 to 10-15 that would come out to 51,000 instead 102,000. I haven't tried that yet, so I can't comment on it. Suppose to increase downloads speeds in P2P client.

No issues... Still going... Wireless on Buffalo HP-54G PCMICA Adapter card is one best/fastest to use with DIR-655 in G-mode only..
Media Streaming using Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP now works, was a bit bumpy their for a while but DIR-655 pick it up..
