3 firewalls? AhmadZ Jul 8th, 05, 09:33 PM #1 (permalink)
hi, now i currently using linksys router. i understand that there is an in built firewall feature in the router. im using zonealarm also. the question is, in addition to windows firewall, does that mean im using 3 firewalls? if so, which is the best one to use n how do i disable the rest?

yup juz disable the win one... the linksys provide a hardware version of firewall while zonealrm is software. both shd work hand in hand to provide great security for u.

Just get rid of Zone Alarm and use the Windows firewall.

That was incredibly hard to read. Do everyone a favor and use a spell-checker. As for the firewall I see no reason to use Zone Alarm unless you for some reason want the extra features. It is not like you get any added security over the SP2 firewall. Host-based outbound filtering gets you nothing except a false sense of security and is just a marketing thing.

U should not on so many firewalls at one time. I'm more of a software based person so from what i know, one computer should onlly have one firewall active. Its better to use the zone alarm one as they specialise in the firewall system, unlike windows one is just to give you the basic protection which does not have the updates...

Hmm.. so many firewalls? You using the wireless router?
I'll choose to flash the linksys firmware with some great 3rd party firmware. Since Linksys wireless routers are running Linux you should be on the safe side for the moment..

agreed..........having 2 or more software firewall on the same system may compromise security

I feel that the SP2 firewall has lesser tweakability than the zone alarm too. But now the next thing to consider is a spyware monitor too.

The best sense of security will be a hybrid of anti-virus, spyware and firewalls.
