try typing "telnet dsldevice.lan" or just type ur gateway address of the modem in.

Disabling the firewall is a very bad and STUPID idea. You will lose all security features. The 585's port forwarding features DO work, just that it doesn't work well when you use a range. Example the default NAPT used by 585 to forward MSN are

TCP----1863
TCP----6891-6900 (problem is here, as ranges don't work well in 585)
UDP----6901

So, to solve the problem, change it to........

TCP----1863
TCP----6891
TCP----6892
TCP----6893
TCP----6894
TCP----6895
TCP----6896
TCP----6897
TCP----6898
TCP----6899
TCP----6900
Both---6901

Do the same for all other programs that you use. And you will have no problems.
Remember to turn your firewall and other security features back on. Please be respondsible and not contribute to the ever growing number of zombie computers.

it is a stupid idea ONLY if you dont have a software firewall protecting your PC form attacks IMHO. and FYI the windows firewall is like a piece of broken condom, might as well not use it.I use the free sygate firewall and some other stuff that i can share if theres a need for it as i take this forum's users to be well versed in defending themselfs online like i do.

Alot of people know that the computer is 4 things: IE , MSN , NORTON , recreation...and for them to port forward is as easy as trying to genetically mutate a pig to fly...

ADSL2+ to be exact.
Using it but I advice u not to disable the firewall. There is no problem with BT or portforwarding this modem.

hey!

May i know what is the username and the password that i have to enter after entering telnet.

I tried my singnet username and password. But, it doesn't work. I was the one set up the network. And I did not set any username and password...

Help me!

I am getting irritated with frequent disconnection. And when I ask singnet for help, they insist on line check although the fault is on the modem.
