Need Help for 2WIRE Modem ! HOKOKO Mar 13th, 09, 01:45 AM #1 (permalink)
Hi, I've been searching the forum trying to find an answer to this but I can't so here goes -

I'm currently subscribed to Singnet 8Mbps plan.
I got their White 2WIRE 2701HGV-E modem the other day.
I connected this to my desktop via wired connection, which I am able to use (BT is slow though)
However, I am unable to set up a wireless connection.

I called Singnet Helpdesk and the techie said that my desktop didn't have a wireless adapter card connected, so I couldn't set up a wireless connection.

But I asked a few ppl I knew and they said that you don't need an adapter.

So I am quite confused now! This is the first wireless connection I'm setting up!

Do I need BOTH a wireless adapter card and the 2wire modem connected to my desktop?

Also, if I buy a D-LINK DIR-655 to replace the 2wire, do I still need the wireless adapter card?
Help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

If you wan wireless on your desktop instead, it of course must have a wifi adapter, be it inbuilt or separate, i.e. USB wifi adapter.

Connecting by both method will not increase your speed.

Are you trying to connect your desktop(the one connected by wire currently) to ur modem wirelessly? If so, ur desktop definitely needs a wireless adapter in order to do so.

sweeet.

do you mind giving me some idea how to go abt doing it?

the singtel initialization page kept coming out, asking me to log in my (singtel) username n pass.

i think the problem lies in some code thing, i can't get pass that stage. do i need to further configure anything else?
