Switching SIM cards to access internet? stealth0128 Sep 16th, 09, 02:20 PM #1 (permalink)
For those who subscribed to mobile broadband service, I'm sure some are like me who sometimes switch the normal SIM card to broadband SIM card in the phone to access internet, in times when wireless@sg is not available.

But it is very troublesome to strip the phone in the public. I wonder does anyone has a better way to utilize mobile broadband using phone?

So far seems like the most convenient way to access to internet using phone and laptop is to sign up for Data plans for phone and Mobile broadband for laptop. but its not cost effective! Any suggestion?

try to use this instead?
MiFi™ 2352 – Intelligent Mobile Hotspot for HSPA Networks
Product page: MiFi™ 2352 – Intelligent Mobile Hotspot for HSPA Networks (for Europe)

So far only M1 is offering this device for sale along with their BBOM plans.

seriously i dont see how multi-sim will help.

Multi-sim refers to having more then 1 SIM card for a mobile number/account.

So what you will need to do:
1. Subscribe to BBOM on your mobile number.
2. Subscribe to Multi-sim service. This will provide a second or more SIM card where u can use it on a separate mobile/laptop device.
3. do note that there's a recurring charge for 5$/mth for multi-sim service.

If TS is planning to just share/utilize his BBOM when there's no wireless@sg coverage.
Perhaps the device that M1 is promoting would be helpful.

its a battery operated HSDPA wifi router with 4hrs usage per charge.

many people dun know that some mobile phones are able to use as HSDPA modem. I tried Motorola V9 and Samsung Omnia II, you install the software given , then just connect the phone to ur laptop via BT or USBcable and use the phone as a 3G modem.

Thanks for your advice.

You mean I can subscribe BBOM into my mobile phone SIM card? If that can be done then what the difference between Data plans and BBOM? Most people will then go for BBOM since its cheaper, right?

I am aware of the M1 Mifi device, but its quite expensive. And I wouldn't need to carry that extra device If I could subscribe BBOM into my mobile SIM card, I'll just subscribe to Multi-SIM and use those on both my mobile phone and laptop.

Did I miss out anything?

By the way i'm currently on a Starhub mobile plan, and my BBOM is from Singtel (contract ending soon).

Yup Multi-Sim won't work cuz your requirement is not to use the same line on 2 phone. But rather, is to use 2 lines on one phone which is not possible lo except for some rare handsets which support.

So best option is to get VAS mobile BB which is tagged to your mobile no. VAS is more ex then those independent mobile BB sim.

For eg, for your SH, they charging 1GB at $19/mth for 7.2MBps (Promo at $13 for 2 yrs contract now) with price cap at $36; whereas if you get their unlimited mobile BB sim, it's $19 for 2Mbps..

I see, I got what you mean.

The $13 subscription sounds good, I'm just worried that the 1GB might not be enough.

I'm paying $24.40 for my ST 2Mbps (50GB) BBOM now. If I recontract for another 2 years they give me a promo rate of $18.50 (not so attractive)

Damn I just received the latest bill of $31.00 for my BBOM, means my contract has ended, first thing to do is to terminate it.

I read from some other forum that I can have the option to subscribe to VAS, then get Muliti-SIM so that both my phone and laptop can have access to internet.

Is it a good idea? But then this case i'm more worried about the pathetic 1GB given...
