What is your latency to Europe and US ? guynemer Oct 19th, 09, 01:07 AM #1 (permalink)
Hello I'm moving to Singapore at the beginning of 2010 and I'm already gathering data to choose a good ISP.

My need is more about getting the lowest latency to Europe / USA then huge bandwidth.

Could you tell me what latency you have with which ISP plz ?

Thx for your help.

Apparently I should get a ping low enough wether it is withSingNet or Starhub.
this is a relief. Are those the 2 major ISP in Singapore ? I've seen so many bad reviews of Starhub, especially concering the speed, when apparently SingNet has not so many issues.

If other people can post their ping the same way, it'll be great.

There is a new opticalfibre OpenNet coming in by 2010. You could look at it in your "future" area to get the best connection available.

SingNet has not so many issues HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you gonna work with SingNet when you arrive here ?

if latency is your main concern, singnet should be better overall

I will probably end up in the Geyland district because of the costs of the rent of the flat.
Would there be huge differences in terms of quality of service , depending on the district I will be living in ? I mean after all Singapore is rather small ...

And no I wont be working for SingNet HAHA

Here's mine... On M1 15Mbps... Yup Starhub really has many issues with their internet service... Can go with Singnet or M1... M1 has the cheapest broadband plans for 10Mbps onwards and doesn't require additional monthly telephone charge like Singnet..

Could you try the same thing but with servers located in europe ? France ? Germany ? Russia, maybe eve northern europe ? Thx.

Concerning the offers, I need something with the shortest contract possible as I should stay in Singapore for 1 year, but just in case .. if I can get only 6 months contract it would be great.

Just for information, does a monthly service exist ? Like prepaid. that way I could skip from a isp to another from month to month if i'm not satisfied.

In that case, I think you can forget about Singnet. I called them up about 3 months ago asking for a monthly plan w/o any form of contract. CSO flat out rejected me, said I had to sign their 24months contract. I believe Starhub just rolled out a monthly plan w/o any sort of contract. You could find out more on their website.

Alternatively, you could sign Singnet's 24month contract and upon your leaving you could pay someone to "take over" your contract.

Latency wise, Singnet is the way to go. I won't recommend Starhub if that is what is most important for your services.

Routing to Europe via my SH connection goes via the US. Not very healthy for the RTTs eh.
