Starhub homebroadband with North America servers saddamat Oct 24th, 09, 10:24 PM #1 (permalink)
I am working at home and using almost all websites with servers in US or UK.
Currently i am having the package of starhub MaxOnline Express with up to 8 Mbps download and up to 768Kbps upload speed.
When i did the speed test, it was alright. i get around 4-7 MB download and 0.7 MB upload most of the time.
When i was in UK, this speed is sufficient to support the features that i need to use at work, which are skype phone (call to UK or Canada), webinar (server US) and loading my company website (server US) all at the same time.
However, over here, i could only use skype at one time and coulnd't run other features. Sometimes skype phone is cutting off as well.
So i am wondering, is this because of the servers of the websites are too far?
i am using wireless router now. Eventhough if i move next to the router or use cable to get the internet connection, it doesn't help as well.
Does upgrading my starhub home broadband to up to 100 mbps helps?
Please advise. Thanks!

What router are you using? You need your router to perform some QoS for your Skype calls in order to prevent other internet usage from affecting the Skype connection.

Nope... Upgrading to 100MBps will not help since the activities are not data-intensive.. There have been many problems with SH MaxOnline... Which could be the main reason of your issue. Can refer to HardwareZone forum for the details =)

QoS refers to quality of service, play around with your router configuration and see if you can prioritise the skype connections

but overall i agree with czheyuan, there's nothing much you can do coz there are issues with overseas servers..

p.s. czheyuan was asking you to refer to hardwarezone.com forums, not the Hardware Arena subforums
