AMD can stuff their shit back in their arse. I am so fed up with their drivers and video "quality". I am really looking forward to GeForce 8800 GT and I will probably end up buying that. I hate their noisy hair dryers.

8800gt wont support 10.1 and even when is a minor upgrade, it will still be something that will let you hold your card longer.

Not an ati fan neither but 8800gts woulda be perfect with 10.1 support

Ask an HD2900XT owner how well it plays games and stop reading corupt websites about ATI.In almost all recent games especially with unreal 3 engine ATI plays so much better and fluid framerates than Nvidia 8800gts 640mb (being at the same price range).Of course you could have better framerate's on Nvidia with AA on but those better framerate's is an average of 60 fps in some of the latest shooters or in most of the times an average of 40 fps and that is with their timedemos but with action in the game the framerate is so bad that eventually you will play without AA and that gets you where ATI is with 8800GTX performance but at a lower price.Look at the specs of the 8800GT how they reduced TMUS and ROPS at the level of ATI HD2900 you know what that means it brings more performance in new games with those 112 SP and AA being unacessible in heavy games based on UT3 engines and others that are not but they have very good graphics letting more ROPS was a waste if not enough for good performance so 8800GT will be as poor as a HD2900XT in AA scenario but much better than an 8800GTS without AA.Ati already have a very capable shader intesive video card and making a higher clocked one only makes it better so you will see how bad Nvidia losses to ATI this end of the year.

I really don't get these ppl complaining about ATi drivers and performance and cards overall. Like 99.5% of ppl flame me because they can't even read the latest benchmarks of the HD2900XT. like many ppl saying "radeons suck, my gts 320mb is best", "ATi sucks at dx10", "ATi blalalaal.."
This happens in so many forums. and websites. and my radeon is about as silent as the 8800 so no complaints really. I can live with the heat
HD2900pro is right now propably the best price/performance card because it can oc to xt in 5 seconds. It will be more even when the 8800GT comes tho. and GTX costs twice as much as the 2900pro.
so all I can say to the nv fanbois is STFU. I'm one of the ppl who buy what is best price/performance for me. I don't care if it is nv or ati

so so true to the two comments above. its so annoying when people pick a favourite brand. I love my ATI card, even though i was gonna go for nvidia. the price/performance was unbeatable on my 2900xt, so got it and never looked back. games run so well. i mean come on people, you go for your own preference, spme go for performance, which meant that they all used to be with AMD until intel took the performance crown. each product has its own strengths and weaknesses, many places have said the 8800gt is crap and performance wise will lose to the rv670 pro. so come on, stop the stupid bitching

mczak from Beyond 3D:

At the rumoured configuration of 112SP/1500Mhz, 600Mhz core (16 ROP/28 TMU), and 256bit/900Mhz memory it has (all to reference GTX/GTS clocks):

97% of the ALU performance of a GTX (145% of a GTS)
91% of the texturing performance (140%)
70% of the "ROP power" (pixel fill, z test etc.) (96%)
67% of the memory bandwidth (90%)
----

According to this 8800 GT will kick 8800 GTS's arse in new games - in older games they are evenly matched. And yeah..this is good for DX10 games that are coming and 8800 GTS were ahead of HD2900XT in those games.
----

Can it fight against HD3870? Is there anything else increasing performance (compared to HD2900XT) than 11% higher clocks for core?

Im not an expert but according to Cevat Yerli at Crytek 10.1 doesnt provide any advantage since 10.1 features is too power consuming for todays card to handle. He thinks the new features might be useful in two or three upgrade cycles. So apparently it looks good on paper but doesnt mean much in real life. But he meight be bought by nvidia, what do i know =)

Same here was about to go with a 8800GTX, but after seeing the HD 2900XT 1GB. Immediately in my mind I thought to myself this card cost less
than a 8800GTX, it has more ram was well as better ram technology
GDDR4 vs GDDR3, and it's got potential. As for why I did not go with a 8800GTX since it's got better performance. What I got was for me and only me. It was not for my next door neighbor, my friends or for my dog. This card was for me and only me. So what if it isn't the fastest card on the planet. So what if the card is slower than a 8800GTX or a 8800 Ultra.

To all of you, go with the card you have a desire for. and once you get it
be proud of it.

Now is the 2900XT loud?
Not really it's pretty damn silent for the 1Gb model as for the
512mb version, that I cannot tell.

I have the pro with 512mb but it has the same cooler as xt. It is one of the quietest coolers I have seen. (unless you force it to run at +47% speeds with rivatuner of course ) even the zalman 9700NT fan is a lot louder. and I play at 1280x1024 resolution and have been able to play all my games at max settings so far (bioshock dx10, wic, stalker, medal of honor: airborne...) I don't care what some ppl say. I was going to get nv too but ati gave me unbelievable deal. 2900xt (after overclocking) for ~250$USD

..if your HD 2900 PRO is quiet.. then 8800 GTS is Quiet. I have had both cards and that difference is clear: With 8800-cards there's no real difference between idle and load noiselevel when with HD2900-cards..there's clear difference. I have heard both of them (HD2900XT and 8800 GTS 640MB) used in computer that is otherwise pretty silent..that's why your opinion is suprising.

clearly, some HD2900Pros have XT max rpm cooler while other have reduced max rpm, thats why everyone observes different loudness

Funny that those testers won't get those models with reduced max rpm..
