any idea what the little chip on the left is?

i dont understand the clock speeds, they are lower than the 8800GTS 512mb

Just make me remember, how much the GF 8800GTS can go in 3DM 03 & 05 at this CPU Speed ??

I mean will both be worth...

I think that nVIDIA managed to kick more performance per MHz with the new GPU, thats why they underclocked the GPU to make it cooler...

that chip on the left is the output interface chip, nV did it again and find it hard to integrate it inside the GPU die like normal, so they make it in seperate chip

New GPU? It has been shown over and over again that 9800 series of cards feature G92's just like 8800GT (G92-300-A2) and GTS512 (G92-400-A2), 9800GTX uses G92-420-A2 and 9800GX2 G92-450-A2 x2, I'd guess 9800GTS uses G92-400-A2 like 8800GTS512

On the left there isn't any chip, though there clearly is a place for some sort of chip there.

Based on the clocks, this card is in fact slower than 8800GTS512, only reasoning for this that I can figure out is to make the difference between 9800GTS and GTX bigger, as they're only separated by their clocks. It's also possible that this is a protoboard with lower clocks than retail.

I don't think its actually a G92, probably a modified G92 or something else most likely.

hmm... just one sli connector? i'm a bit dissappointed...

hmmm, would be interesting what revision it really is. but if its the same as 9800GTX the low clocks would make sense... the theory abt better performance/MHz and lower TDP is also interesting... lets see...

My bet is that this 9800 GTS is renamed 8800 GT . It has same clock frequencies and this would work with Nvidia's naming strategy:
8800 GTS 512 -> 9800 GTX
8800 GT -> 9800 GTS

Too bad GPU-Z can't reveal how much shader processors it has to determine its a 8800GT or GTS type of G92.

What is 3Dmark show cpu speed at 3ghz on the first test and CPU-Z showing 4.5ghz. Also someone on another forum says that the driver used doesn't even show 9800GT showing up in the .inf.

Look at the top screen. 3Dmark shows 3ghz. Even some of the 174 series drivers doesn't even show the 9800GT at all. Tell me how they show up in a earlier driver then.

Look at at the circle in red
It's the actual CPU speed for the 3dmark06
You can't get CPU score 4239 @3.0GHz

Click the image to open in full size.

3.0GHz is a default speed
