PCGH: What game has the highest power consumption Fr3ak Mar 16th, 08, 04:33 AM #1 (permalink)
PC Games Hardware tested the power consumption of different games with the following testsetup:
C2D E6600@3,0 GHz; Xfx Nforce 680i LT; 2 GiByte DDR2-800-RAM; Geforce 8800 GT (Fw. 169.25); 1.280x1.024; 4xFSAA/16xAF

Find out what games are the most demanding:

Never push the hardware to the max mar. Not as in not enough texture/polygon, but never implement all the script that make use of the other transistors in the GPU.

Programmers' fault...?

UT3 and Crysis at the top? ...although I'm not so surprised...

they should try Clive barker's Jericho. that game crashed my 8800GTX so many times due to overheating.

Maybe it's just me but I liked how the source engine looks like now compared to crysis

not really they are not using the games tt utilize the next gen source engine. i did a power test with TF2 n it draws 10 watts less than cod4 and ut3 10watt more that cod4

Civilization is over, It's time to Elect The Dead.

Then they should've included TF2...

Now, I wonder what happens when DX 10.1 comes into the picture?

hey, consume more power doesn't mean better right ?
It could just mean that valve's coding is more efficient... So it can run even on older systems

Nothing to do wif efficiency of engine - which is how much power to produce how good gfx, since the card will always be stressed to the max to produce as high fps as possible, efficient/tough visual or not.

This kind of scenario is like stressing CPUs - games stress the least, prime95 stresses more, video encoding even more, specialized testing software brings out the most heat, yet in all situations CPU is at 100%.

Having the CPU/GPU at 100% yet not being able to use the unused parts because the rest of the processor is choked actually makes it inefficient.
