Intel: upgrade GPU have no benefit to users cookerjc May 12th, 08, 01:32 PM #1 (permalink)
NVIDIA seems very unhappy with Intel, not only showed us upgrading CPU is useless and even hinted Intel’s upcoming graphic solution Larrabee will be a vaporware:

“Larabee is a PowerPoint slide,I haven’t met a product on my PowerPoint slide that I don’t like. You know, they’re floating Larrabee out there just to put a shadow over us, cast a cloud over us. They’ve already slipped it two years from the time they talked about. They would love to slip it another four years and leave a cloud over me.” (NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, CNET interview)

But now Intel’s begin to strike back. In Intel’s latest road map documents, they use lots of pages to show an interesting comparison: upgrade from G33 IGP mobo to NVIDIA 8800GTX won’t bring any benefit on 3D rendering music photo and video processing.

After all, being a gamer, only upgrade GPU or CPU is not a wise choice, just think about Alan Wake and other upcoming titles…

Why would any non-gamer consider buying a 8800 in the first place?

And on the other side, I do 3D rendering and I dont know what I would do with an INTEL IGP with all those polygons on the viewport of 3DSMAX. Irrelevant argument

music has nothing to do with gpu but, why Intel not showing any gaming gain or lose?

Intel is right on performance gain but I don't encode video, convert music, publish photo, or render animations. I play game, so upgrading GPU is way more beneficial.

hey guys intel is right

therefore

DONT WASTED URE MONEY ON the 45nm's

kekek just buy second hand 65nm's which are now dirt cheap..

since the 65nm vs 45nm clock to clock difference is minimal..
finally they are talking sense..

Intel is abt right. If you're not gaming, why bother with a great GPU. A good CPU is more impt.

But IF you're gaming, then BOTH are equally important. I'd pay top bux for both GPU and CPU.

No point getting a Q9650 then pair it with a 8400GS... or an 9800GX2 on an E4400. LOL.

Balancing your config is the key.

I prefer a balance system, this is plain childishness and only AMD will benefit.

Actually 9800 GX2 with E4400 is a good idea. Just overclock the CPU to 3+ Ghz and at 1920x1080 you wouldnt see a difference between a Q9$$$ and an E4400. Why would you give 1000$ for performance you can get for 100$ ?

That was just making a point.

Realistically, I would pair a GX2 off with an E8400/8500 or Q9450/9550.

That was my reason for upgrading DIY PC (Mobo, CPU, RAM, Professional Soundcard and dirt cheap 8400 GPU series using DDR2 ram!)

i kinda agree that it must be balanced in order to work smoothly and well . Because if you got a Core 2 Extreme QX**** and a 7600GT gfx card . In the end still will have bottleneck . But if you got a E2140 and HD3870GX2 , the cpu will have bottleneck unless you OC it till 3GHZ+ . Unless you are a serious gamer in which your computer is SOLELY used for gaming meaning no msn , no yahoo messenger , no music , JUST GAMES application . But if you are having a mixture , my opinion is that a 8800GT/8600GT and a E6XX series chipset is good enough for games like Call Of Duty 4 and probably MMORPGS . Well , my 2cents .
