Wow if these results don't improve much, I will regard the GTX release as a massive failure. When the card should be performing approximately 2.3 times that of 8800gtx, it is infact only performing at 1.4 - 1.7 times of that card. It does absolutely not justify the massive price tag the card has. I mean, when every new GPU has been released previously, performance has doubled or even more so. And now it has gone 21 months since the release of 8800gtx, when refreshes of previous cards has happened at 18 months according to moore's law. Guess that's what happens when there is lack of competition...
I could pretty much buy a 9800gx2 since that performs about equally at a much lower price. The only slight disadvantage is the microstuttering and SLI scaling.

well the GTX280 is basicly 2 G92 dies, so if you were expecting much better then this.... you need a recheck with reality
and i dont think drivers will improve much, since the same shaders are used, just bigger memory bus etc. everything X2 not much arch changes, so dont expect the drivers to really show large improvements

100% totally fake aidsthegiraffe Jun 14th, 08, 09:27 PM #8 (permalink)
My god these benchies could not be more fake! There are soo many things wrong with them i do not know where to begin. For the purpose of proving my point i will focus on the crysis benchmarks:
- Firstly there is no Antistroic filtering in crysis, yet they claim to have it set to 16x????

- Secondly and most obviously, all of those cards cannot get that fps in game with high settings and 4x AA. Proof: http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/14524/9
with an even more powerful test rig, the techreport shows that the 9800gx2 can only average 34fps "without" AA turned on at 1680x1050 res, yet, these benchies show that the 8800gt, 8800gtx, 8800gts and 9800gtx are getting above 34fps WITH 4xAA

- the next issue is with AA scaling. The 3870x2 scores higher than the GX2 in crysis with 4x AA enabled, (as seen in the above link), yet in these benchmarks, it falls even behind the 8800gt!

There are sooooooooooooooooo many more stupid numbers throughout the rest of the benchmarks, just compare these numbers to the numbers in the above techreport review.

EDIT: I stand corrected that you can force AF through the GPU control panel, however, this does not deter from the fact that these benchmarsks are clearly fake.

16xAF can be enabled in any game built upon traditional rasterization techniques (ie every 3dgame that has been released), do you really know what you are talking about here?

my 30 inch monitor have been waiting for the next generation of graphic card.

if this is real, then i have not found the solution to my 30 inch monitor gaming problem

i will not be buying an expenisve overheated graphic card that is little faster than previous generation high end model

Sorry, i hadn't realised that you could force AF through the GPU control panel and i stand corrected. Whilst i do appreciate your sarcastic comment (cough..) it still does not account for the fact that these benchmarks are gogus.

BTW, according to the start of the "review", is is quoted that the games are played on the highest possible ingame settings. Hence as the benchmarks are meant to be at all high settings for crysis (not v.high) as the system is running win xp.
