Ah, so the GTX 280s can get modest overclocks.

The perfromance seemed to scale fair with the OC, yielding approximately 600 more points in vantage.

Yeah, I noticed that also, I'd think it has to do with 240 low clocked shaders, you overclock them and your performance is going to increase much faster than an overclocked G80 GTX/Ultra.

Yeah, and slow CPUs seem to be holding these cards back aswell.

It will be interesting to see how well the 55nm GT200 works, because if clocks of the 3/4xx0 series are any indications we could be seeing 850Mhz GTX 285?'s/290?'s. Not to mention Fudzilla had a story going about how nvidia wouldn't be able to make a switch to GDDR5 till about Spring time next year at the earliest, so nvidia will be stuck at sub-1500Mhz memory clocks (unless GDDR3 can magically be uber-clocked).

nV will simply have to go with a uber wide memory bus. 768 bit or the likes maybe isn't far fetched if a new top end card from nV will be released before they can get a hold of GDDR5.

Yeah, though by the time they try and go for that ATi will be jamming 2GB of GDDR5 in a 512-bit bus in their highends....oh wait....that sounds a lot like the 4870x2.
