Should we buy 9800 GX2 or GTX 280??? XHD2560x1600 Jun 16th, 08, 06:26 AM #1 (permalink)
Well the 9800 GX2 is as low as $429 right now, and If this price drops more it will be looking even better! The GTX 260 dont support 2560x1600 from what i've seen on the Spec sheets for all of the Unveiled GTX 260. I also think the 9800 GX2 and GTX 260 are going to offer very similar performance, But the 9800 GX2 supports 2560x1600 and manages to keep up with the GTX 280. I think the GTX 280 will only be good for people who want to get SLI with better scaling, as it will be faster than 9800 GX2 Quad SLI. What do you think?

nVidia Slaps 30" 2560x1600 users in the face by making them dish out for GTX 280. No Dual Link DVI for you!!!

As of now a 9800Gx2 would seem to be the best buy for 2560x1600.

Darn, they don't support 1920x1200 either...guess that's no GTX 280 for me.

Actually those are resolutions that aren't widescreen, it's obvious that they support widescreen we just like pointing and laughing at stuff.

The last generation 9800 GX2 FTW!!! Although both the GTX 260 and GTX 280 both say Dual link DVI so i'm confused.

But 1536 on the height is less than 1600! If they support 1920*1440 they must support 1920*1200 too.

Guess it's time to pull out the old CRT and revert back to Analog , Wide screen has been canceled by nVidia, because you know computer hardware is suppose to use more watts every generation and no new technologies! Screw DDR5 and DX 10.1!! We have DDR 3 , DX 10 , SM 4.0 and Analog resolution!!! Go nVidia!!!!

Hwo told you it wouldn't do Dual Link DVI?
They where refering to the ANALOG resolutions
Single link DVI would have stopped ant 1920*1200
They didn't specify that the values are for analog only because they
thought nowbody would think that the latest advancement in graphics technology wouldn't be able to support Dual link DVI

I think you're right.

My 8800GT supports 2560x1600 dual link DVI on both DVI connectors. So if GTX260 doesn't support dual-link DVI it's really really really pathetic.
