NVidia overwrites Futuremark's vantage files Teemax Jul 8th, 08, 11:39 AM #1 (permalink)

CJ let us know that the Nvidia PhysX driver changes some DLL files files within 3DMark Vantage and overwrites them with new versions. These versions cause your PPU to stop working, but will offload work to the GPU if you have a PhysX capable graphics card like GF9/GTX 200. When you install a Radeon you can't get your PPU back to work since NV overwrote the original DLLs.
Off-loading CPU work to GPU for benchmarking is debatable.
But changing Futuremarks' installation is really low...

Yup! we know about that how else would it get a CPU intented test onto their GPU as well. While they are at it, not why stored a few more secret surprises (inflated scores) for their loyal fans or a few nasties (corrupted OS) for their haters, ATI fans

They shouldn't have done that. They should have given a choice to enable or disable the function to use PhysX or otherwise. Maybe Futuremark should consider re-programming that module.

CJ has obviously hasnt downloaded the latest Physx Driver

the previous Physx driver/software that came 3dmark Vantage
was either always GPU for physx..once u installed drivers like 177.41
users didnt have a choice

but with the latest driver/software for physx u have a choice
i can prove this with my 2nd rig which has a 9800gx2 and BFG ageia Physx
running on 177.41 with a modified .inf

PIC taken from main righ with HD4870 Crossfired with latest NVIDIA physx software/driver version 8.06.12
Click the image to open in full size.

The physx/software drivers are nvidia property bro.. since they bought ageia physx..

CPU Benchmark Norm for E8500 @ 4ghz
Test Bench Biostar T-power I45+BFG Physx+HD4870 Crossfired
With Physx
10k for CPU
Click the image to open in full size.

PS compared to HD4870 Crossfire on Maximus 2 @ 4.25ghz
Click the image to open in full size.

compared the cpu scores..

that would make CJ wrong that radeon + Ageia Physx card doesnt work..

E8500@4ghz + 9800gx2 with BFG Ageia Physx on DFI X48 LT
Click the image to open in full size.

E8400@4.25ghz+9800GX2 with BFG Ageia Physx on Asus Striker 2 Formula with 177.41 driver with GPU Physx enabled
Click the image to open in full size.

Thanks for the info, but will it affect with Havok?

Havok physx is not supported by 3dmark vantage..
only ageia..
they only support hardware physx
nvidia took advantage of cuda and their aquisition of ageia to make their GPU's to perform physx ..
again all this with ageia driver/software in short u dont have this.. it wont work..

My concern is that NVIDIA didn't ask Futuremark to patch their software, but NVIDIA automatically patches Vantage for you...

This set very dangerous precedent. What if ATI patches Vantage themself and just "tweak" it to run faster with ATI cards? How would NVIDIA react?

my concern is u guys are not using vantage
its a third party application
when u install vantage.. it installs NVIDIA PHYSX..
not futuremark physx software.

No, reprogramming to have it check file integrity before running.
