HD 4850 X2: Partners are asked...

Quote:
It looks like AMD's partner will decide, if they bring a HD 4850 X2 or not. AMD uses the same strategy with HD 3850 X2. Asus was the one partner, who sells this graphic card.

4850 performance is really close to 4870
with the price difference between the 2.
4850x2 seems like a budget version of 4870x2
it is most welcome

The 3850X2 was released just in time to be outdated by the 4850, so maybe the 4850X2 will be ready just in time before release of the 5850

The 4850X2 sounds like a good deal. Especially considering that it will have a dual slot cooler, means that it can be clocked better. Only the memory will be the main difference between the 4870X2 and the 4850X2.

Ok probably the 4870X2 will sport better/more voltage regulators, so it can reach a bit higher clocks.

I fancy the 4870X2 though, since i already have an rv770 with GDDR3.

If they include the same crappy HSF as 4850/4870... No, thanks

And we don't know if 4850x2 will have lower clockspeed than 4870x2 or not.

Calling the HSF of the the 4850 and the 4870 as crappy is unfair i think. They were made by ATI to keep their cards at working condition, so nobody knows better than ATI.

If someone considers the temperatures as high, they can always up the fan speeds a bit. Especially the 4870 cooler is great since it drives the hot air out the box, no matter how hot it is. The same applies to the new coolers but i guess they will have more heatpipes to cope better with the heat, which once again will make them sufficient.

Regarding the clock speeds, true, we don't know anything for sure yet. But we can always speculate, judging by the current clocks of the 4850/4870,cann't we?

OK I'll give you that 48x0 HSF is adequate for standard clock. At least the ATI HSF is very quiet vs the NVIDIA's ones.

But 48x0 HSF sucksroyally for overclocking. To be fair, so are most HSFs of NVIDIA
