Nvidia is saying that why need extra Shaders when gtx 260 SLI can beat 4870 crossfire. With 55nm die shrink and newer driver, u bet gtx 295 will beat 4870x2 for shizzle. The problem is gtx 280 has no competitor, and thats why it cost twice as much as gtx 260. Now, who needs more of works?

EPAAAA.. so I was right when I said that gtx 295 is nothing but 2 gtx 260 in SLI.
Well ladies and gentleman, looks like we will have a new king...
King of all categories...
Heat, price, performance (err... only 5 percent more than 4870x2?)and maybe consumption too...

Why? becuase with 240x2 SP with only 289W TDP is impressive...

Now they reduced to 216x2 and the TDP remain 289W... What impression does it gives?

240x2 SP with 289W TDP is a hoax!

There's two things that are a bit strange about those GTX 285 specs.

1) IIRC, the Shaders can only be clocked in 54 MHz steps. In this case that would be either 1458 MHz or 1512 MHz, 1276 is not possible.

2) A default memory clock of 1242 (2484 DDR) sounds a bit high, considering it's probably GDDR3. Can't exclude the possibility though.

Otherwise, those specs are realistic.
My bang-for-buck-Rig:

Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Geforce 8800 GT @675/1674/972
4 GB Aeneon DDR2-667
1x WD Raptor 74GB
1x Hitachi 160GB
X-Fi Xtreme Music
Sharkoon SHA450-8P 450W
WinXP SP3

Wow.After all you sound as "clever" as i thought you'd be.
Where did you get that the 260gtx sli can beat the 4870?
And the 280gtx doesn't have a competitor...?

So you tell people to stfu.........
Why didn't you respond to me in the previous thread where i posted some benchmarks to show how the 4870 does against N-vidia's cards and how much difference the new 180.48 driver brings?
Or you just throw your dirty words on people and run away....

The 295gtx will win where 216core in sli wins against the 4870x2 and will lose where 216core in sli loses.Considering that it will perform as 2 216core cards in sli since it's two 216 core cards in a package with a sli bridge connecting them.
The 4870x2 competes against 2 280gtx's in sli.So it's probably going to end up faster than the 295gtx in most games.

Here's how the 4870x2 performs against 280gtx/sli in fallout 3 with the latest drivers from both ATI and N-vidia:

Devil may cry4 which is one of my favorite games this year.

Race driver GRID.

It will lose in crysis.since the games doesn't scale well with ATI cards neither in a single setup nor ina X-fire setup.

I couldn't find a similar test with Far Cry 2.But i hope this comparison between the 4870 and the 280gtx will do:
