SanDisk SSD G3: The time for affordable high-speed SSD is here! Teemax Jan 9th, 09, 10:44 AM #1

http://www.i4u.com/article22595.html

Quote:
Available in capacities of 60, 120 and 240GB, the unit MSRPs are $149, $249 and $499, respectively.
The SanDisk G3 SSDs are more than five times faster than the fastest 7,200 RPM HDDs and more than twice as fast as SSDs shipping in 2008, clocking in at 40,000 RPM and anticipated sequential performance of 200MB/s read and 140MB/s write.
The G3 SSDs provide a Longterm Data Endurance (LDE) of 160 terabytes written (TBW) for the 240GB version, sufficient for over 100 years of typical user usage.
$249 for 120GB with excellent specs. Way to go SanDisk! At this price it's hard to say no to SSD

$99 is the magic price, until them is no no. But it's good for my guinea pigs to act as a test bed.

With $99 today you won't get a very good HD actually. SSD is speedier, why should you expect it to magically drop to $99?

hmmm, the specs look good on paper. though i would wait to see how does it perform in reality. might get one to replace my raptor if these drives prove to be that good.

Get the 60GB for Operating system and games and important stuff.

320GB SATA for storage.

Sounds like a good plan.

Those are really nice prices for SSD's. I will soon consider buying one for myself.

I'd expect a reasonably fast 64-128GB SSD for $99 considering the fact you can buy a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB HD on newegg for $95, which is a very good HD.

2.5" SSD can mount to the floppy disk drive bay. If can't look like casing maker need to do some changes.

You should take a look at the Velociraptor, a much closer competitor to SSD (performance drive). 150GB is $160 on newegg.
