And what is your point? Apple Macbooks don't serve the same market.

Pffftht.

I am not installing the "silverlight plugin" to watch a stupid video. Doesn't Microsoft realize that viral videos come from youtube?

PS, buy a Toshiba magnesium laptop if you want it to be lighter and more fully-featured than a MAC. (I got my brother a Portege and it was really really thin and light)

Laptops need to die, where are the wearable computers already? It is nearly 2010!

All we need is some anorexic girls to load up hello-kitty and Gucci all over a wearable computer and have Steve Jobs tell us "it is the future" and it will all come to pass. (That or Microsoft really shake up the portable gaming market with the Xbox24/7 wearable game system)

apple only make ONE os, it's cheaper than most versions of windows u get in australia

also apple write better software than MS

i paid the premium for a mac be cause i see windows going no where fast.

the next version of OSX snow leopard is being coded to work with 8+ cores better. current windows will decline in performce it 8 or more cores. they haven't even future proofed themselves.

also snow leopard will include OpenCL that is basically cuda built into the OS. so it'll be easier for developers to throw data to the GPU for processoing. basically any mac with a nvida gpu will get a good feature and performance improvment from their next OS. (plus they have rewritten all their core apps to be smaller and work with 64bit better.)

windows is still struggling from the fact they made shite OSes; and their next release is just patch really -__-

So . . . Apple needs to sell the OS so we can install it on our own PC's??

For a company that started out in a garage building computers housed in plywood Apple is not very DIY friendly these days.

u can find drivers for Apple hardware for M$ OS. but never find drivers for your PC using Mac OS...

So in foreseeable future... near impossible... Mac is still niche... to developers on Mac... its as simple as developing for Consoles since you only have 1 type of hardware variable unlike PC's multiple combination.

For your info Microsoft at the start have never written an OS. They bought an operating system from another company and called it MS DOS to sell to IBM after making a deal with them. They were screwed cause they didn't have an OS. Till today they have been using DOS as a platform to run over from Windows 1.0 till XP I think.

I use a resonably high powered DIY PC for gaming so I know the diff between using it and a Mac. You need a PC but so far only for games and playing back various encoded videos like mkvs, avi etc. My usual work and email etc I use a Mac unless the program/hardware doesn't support Mac. It's less frustrating but not perfect either.

Given the chance I wouldn't touch a PC laptop. You need to spend a lot more to get one that doesn't fail you easily. This is not from talking BS, we use all kinds of laptops for live shows, from presentations to full motion 'live' video rendering and I've seen expensive stuff like 14 units of Sony VAIO computers fail (and these were given by Sony themselves). None of the Macs I've used have failed so far.

Also Apple have never been touting DIY computers, in fact the opposite is true. Closed systems to minimize hardware/software compatibility is Apple's style. DIY was in the realm of Taiwanese computer pirates and eventually lawsuits were lost and it became legal on the PC side.

I'm using an ASUS striker extreme board that has been RMAed 3 times with different problems and the latest board I got won't restart most of the time and I can't use all 4 1GB of ram sticks at the same time anymore. Sigh.

Conclusion: Both suck but paying more for a Mac makes sense. Paying less for a PC is saying the same as skipping the PC and buying a bag of trash for even less money; that's what you gonna end up with anyways...hee hee.

Can't rule yet, the core technology for Windows haven't improved much. For example the file system.
Others too, unless it's able to catch up.

And also windows has quite a slow release cycle, and it might be released at time that many companies are saving money.
