All Core i7 with 6,4 GT/s without loss of warranty KonKorT Mar 31st, 09, 10:28 PM #1

At the beginning of this month, the Hardware sites Maximum PC and Dailytech reported, that Intel would have decided to raise the QPI frequency from 4.8 to 6.4 Gigatransfers per second even with the smaller models, namely Core i7 920 and Core i7 940, for strategic reasons.
Is a Bios update necessary, is the higher QPI frequency only valid for the newer Core i7 processors in D0 stepping? Helplessness.

Intel Germany could present a more or less final result to us today in a phone call.
Thus, it would be (already) possible to raise the QPI frequency by Bios to 6.4 Gigatransfers with the first ready-to-sell Core i7 processors, that is in C0 stepping. This change shall happen without warranty loss.

Finally they are waking up. It makes no sense to lock the QPI frequency in the first place. Who can afford a SGD$2K CPU? Don't think many have such deep wallets.
