Not only is Asus trying to beat Apple in the innovative design department, it seems to be thinking of going after Nintendo in the video game console segment too.

According to comments made by Jonathan Tsang, the vice chairman of Asus, in an interview with the New York Times, the Taiwanese computer maker has ‘polished off’ a video game system it claims can rival the Wii.

“We have a product we think is better than the Wii,” Tsang said. “But the content is complicated.”

Asus claims to have developed a system that has controllers that reflect motion better than the Wii controllers (although the playing field may have changed with Wii MotionPlus or even Sony’s PlayStation Motion Controller).

Don't think its a profitable idea. Nintendo's hardware is successful solely on the strength delivered by its software entertainment part of the company. Its ability to package and target wider consumer groups are without equal.

Asus's talk about hardware solely and would inevitablely fail. PS3 has superior hardware but their sales does not reflect that.

I think Asus is too diversified, only in the tech field. Quality wise, I strongly feel that its going downhill. Anyway, creating a new console that's better than a 2 year or older console is no big deal. Not to mention they need to get game developers to create games for their console, if not its just going to be a lemon.

IMO, not a true innovation like Wii, Xbox or PS3.
But expecting a "Frankenstein" of consoles currently out.
