AMD lowers prices for ATI Radeon HD 4000-series GPUs newzhunter Jun 12th, 09, 07:30 PM #1

AMD recently lowered the prices for its ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card from NT$5,200-5,500 (US$158-168) at the beginning of this year to NT$3,900, while the company's ATI Radeon HD 4670 also received a cut of around NT$400.

The company also plans to cut the price of the HD 4890 from US$249 to US$199 as well as lower the price of the HD 4870 by US$30-50, according to market sources in Taiwan.

The sources have also revealed that due to low yields of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC's) 40nm process, AMD's ATI Radeon HD 4770 GPU is still unable to enter mass production.

AMD has refuted the market speculation of a production issue with the HD 4770, while confirming that it has approved price cuts for HD 4850 and 4670 graphics cards, but it noted final pricing is decided by card vendors.

Mmmhh, I hope that cypress/Rv870 performs really well. These prices may give us a clue on the expected performance of those chips.
