Intel Confirms SSD Data Corruption Issue, Suspends Shipments snakeoil Jul 30th, 09, 08:55 PM #1

''However, Intel has confirmed that it is delaying shipments of its new SSDs due to a data corruption issue affecting all of the new drives.

The problem occurs when a user sets a BIOS drive password on the new SSDs and then disables or changes the password. If the user powers off the computer, the drive will become inoperable and the data stored on it will remain inaccessible''.

i paid 500 dollars for this, and all i got was all my data lost. great, thanks intel.

No, but they are the only manufacturer using 34-nm NAND flash chips for their products, like the X25-M G2 that is being talked about here. Anyways, the product will only show the defect if you set a BIOS password (not a OS password, but a BIOS one) and then change it. I'm not sure about you, but I have never once set a password on my PC's BIOS before. For about 99.99% of users, this data corruption is a non-issue.

My thoughts exactly....

Most people would not bother with BIOS drive password..so why is there a problem?
