This is good as I'm hoping to pick one of these up for my next build. Way more pumped for this gen of cards than the last RV770 and GT200.

this means it is definitely going to be slower than the gt300. i am guessing gt300 will be at least 50% faster, since it's a complete redesign and the preliminary data on it sounds VERY promising

I certainly think so. Especially so if the performance of the new HD58xx proves very competitive. Nvidia def won't be able to produce any cheap cards in the short run because of the complexity of the chip and PCB.

Its too soon to make any conclusion when NV hasn't even had anything concrete yet, and even the mass have no idea what the evergreen performance lies...

I agree with that.

I have a feeling that Nvidia may be keeping quiet on everything related to GT300 to prevent a possible disappointment of the product when it is finally released.

Especially so when it does not live up to its hype just like the case of GT200...

^ Sounds about right to me. I fully expect the "Evergreen" family to launch at the same prices as RV770 did back in 2008. So, $199 for the Radeon HD 5850 card, $299 for the Radeon HD 5870, and $549 for the Radeon HD 5870 X2 dual-GPU card. And, just like before, I don't think the Radeon HD 5870 X2 will launch in September at the same time as the rest of the lineup; AMD will instead wait a little bit and most likely launch it in November.
