This is very promising. It could possibly change the game rules of Multi GPU configuration. It quite a revolution. SLI and Crossfire has existed since Geforce 6000 series era and look at it, little has changed. Scaling still can sucks and performance inconsistency is everywhere. What's consistent is we have to pay two times the price if we wana buy two graphics cards. Why that when you pay twice you don't always get twice? Hydra while unproven, is looking to give you what you pay for (with near perfect scaling). This is such a revolution that I will even forgive them if they didnt implemented their technology flawlessly.

seems like the board can be very EXPENSIVE, having THX TruStudio PC with Creative EAX ADVANCED HD 5.0 integrated in the mobo!!

link: MSI Announces Big Bang: the First Motherboard with THX TruStudio PC | NordicHardware

20 days before we can witness the ultimate gaming mobo!! or the ultimate over-hyped mobo!!

Well if it is VERY expensive (even if it scales 100%), they can shove it.

I can wait for another vendor to come up with a Hydra equipped mobo, especially Gigabyte. If they just use the middle Hydra 200 and completely avoid anything Creative related it would be awesome. My eyes are focused on the P55-UD6. I'd like to see a Hydra version of that. That is IF the hydra delivers. Otherwise I couldn't care less, even if at the end it "just" gives two full 16XPCIe slots to the P55. Anand showed that X58 and P55, have like 2-7% difference when dual cards are used, so, no biggy!

that is why I am so curios, if Hydra is so good, how come we haven't hear other manufacturer implementing this little chip?

some say this mobo is over-hyped so MSI is announcing something to draw away the attentions. which might be true.

MSI hasn't been my choice for the past few years, but seeing their recent lineups I am not reluctant to their product anymore. hopefully this will be the first MSI board I own.

Yeah I haven't gotten an MSI mobo since like 2003 or something! It busted my balls and sweared that I will never get an MSI again. This could change now, if the offer is any good! I am skeptic too!

surfing the web found an OLD article by PC Perspective, they have seen the recent MSI Bing Bang in action and made conclusion that sounds favor to the mobo, to quote what they are saying "Based on what I saw last year as compared to this year, I am confident that it will achieve competitive gaming performance."

scroll to the bottom of page if you want to read the article.

Why Core i5 and X55 chipset?

Why not put out one based around X58 chipset for Core i7?

Or are they testing the market uptake 1st before making big commitments?

maybe because it is closer to some older quard core CPU for the case of i5 and also most normal users still stick to dual channel hence the reason for p55?

I've seen the entire presentation of Lucid Hydra Chip, All graphics card must be connected together with a special cable. They are only releasing the ATi + ATi and nVidia + nVidia driver at launch due to so many configurations of ATi + nVidia mixing. They have to write special driver for every configuration possible. It will take a few months after launch for the nVidia + ATi mixing driver to be released. It will be compatible with every version of Direct X including Direct X 11.

One card is Primary (rendering high polygon) one card is slave (low polygon objects) Also no one knows performance yet and the only demos available was Bioshock and UT3, not exactly the best choices to see the scaling at work. Now all we can do is wait for delivery and see if it lives up to the hype.

Are you sure about this? Meaning that an ATI + NVIDIA config would have a special cable between the cards? I wonder how that would work...

I was very skeptical about this Hydra chip from the start, and I become more skeptical these days actually. The major issue with crossfire and SLI is the driver support. If Hydra continues to use a game-specific driver approach, their have an exponentially more difficult issue than ATI and NVIDIA alone.
