With the end of September comes the end of fiscal year 2009 for Apple. While the company won’t be releasing the numbers for another two weeks or so, consensus estimates from Wall Street for the fourth quarter will fill in the blanks, as Apple always beats estimates. For 2009, during what is arguably the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, Apple will have its best year ever....

I think most of Apple's success is due to the failure of Microsoft. So when Windows 7 is released, we will see things slow down for Apple.

dun know about the rest. but for the first time i bought a brand new mac in 2009.

and notice that some freebies include items such as the ipod, and the iphone... all of these probably adds to the popularity of the mac.

Ya, the trend of take up rate for Windows 7 will be interesting.

Excited to see if this golden Apple can maintain its upward trend when Windows 7 is here.

I feel Mac is selling well because:

1. Windows can be install on Mac now with ease.

2. Mac just have the xfactor which make heads turn.

3. Mac isn't that expensive.

If you compare Macs to offerings from Sony or Fujitsu, they are about the same.

EDITED to remove original quote as requested by LinuxSucks.

The Fujitsus are still cheaper.

Only the Alienwares, Sonys, Clevos and Zeptos can actually match the Macs price for price. But even when they do so, they beat out the Macs by a huge margin in performance.

Acer's most expensive 18" blu-ray quad core laptop costs only a mere $3000, way cheaper than the 17" MAcbook Pro which has nothing near the specs of the Acer. And Alienware just released its mobile i7 laptop, which is cheaper than the Macbook Pro.

Hardware is not the problem, I believe all these are capable machines. But it's the OS.

I used OS X since 2005, till now, I went through 3 OS generations and all using 1GB RAM. I never optimised my OS and all upgrade were done without reformat. And it's still boot up fast, run fast and shutdown fast.

Last time when I still have my Nikon D2x, I edited my 12MP photos on Photoshop using only 1GB RAM and it is not slow at all. I enjoyed multiple photos.

I believe Windows 7 performance should be good too....so I dun think I will complain about performance...the only thing I might complain is the UI.

Yeah if you only consider the hardware, but if you include software it evens out.

OSX is the drawing power - nobody cares about hardware unless they're a techie which is a small minority of users.
